If Les wanted a true dual threat QB, why not Shep?

1. Certainly is a faster and better runner than JJ, and its not even close.

2. I would be willing to bet that his passing stats would have been about the same or possibly better as well.

3. Playbook memorization - Im quite confident he could hand the ball off and do the pitch dive play without much problem. There's no reason he couldnt have had a set of plays that worked for him.

4. "Avoiding the pass rush" - since this was the reason JJ was favored over JL was for athleticism, you have a stud athlete sitting on your bench who can make plays with his feet.

My point - If Les wanted a dual threat QB then why didnt he give the 5-Star dual threat QB a real chance? Im not talking about a few reps in practice I mean an actual chance.

To me, one of the greatest mysteries and also one of the most wasted talents in LSU history. Just my view.

Shep is not a dual threat, as bad as JJ was at throwing the ball Shep was way worse.

When did you see him throw the ball?

And also, have you watched JJ throw the ball the last 4 years?

I find this a very fascinating question. I think the coaches gave up way to early on shep as a qb.....size can be the only thing that I believe was hindering his chance of being a qb.

I would at least tried Mett.
Even if it was only to get JJ out and settle him.

Most seem to forget that Mett played in the Northwestern game and completed 8 of 11 passes.

As I said, It would have bought a little time to settle JJ if nothing else.

I agree with you, but Im really going back a couple of years and looking at what little we got out of the QB position with JJ there and how Les still seemed to favor JJ because of his supposed "dual threat" qualities. Head scratcher.

Are u that fricking dumb? Shep couldn't throw a 10 yard out without bouncing the ball! This shite has been discussed for years now!

But, but, but his high school recruiting film looked awesome.
He would have been an all american at qb or wr if Les has used him right.

Signed, rantard.

Footage of practice when he was still a QB doing QB drills with all the other QB's. JJ has an arm but no accuracy. Shep has no arm and no accuracy and throws the worst spiral. His ball would hang in the air ready for an interception even on a 10 yard route. He can develop into a heck of a receiver though if he is willing to stick around.

notiger is right.

If an explosive expert was defusing a bomb would you jump in there and start disconnecting wires? A football coach has data, like the expert in this example, that you and I don't have. RS couldn't make it as a QB, a WR, a kick returner, nothing. Face it, the guy is just not LSU material. He definitely won't make it in the NFL. This is just a face-saving announcement on his part.

Les had 3 quarters of data on Monday night, yet that bomb sure did blow up, no?

I disagree. I think he is just too far behind the curve since he had no experience what-so-ever as a receiver in HS and the fact that he didn't red-shirt and was given a full year to try QB made it worse. He improved quite a bit in his catching from last season to this seaon and I can see him improve his route running significantly if he stays around. As a pro, he is untouchable right now but I think another year at receiver will make him coachable at the next level.

Not doubting you, but was he really that bad throwing the ball? Do you have any links or footage? (again, not doubting you just curious to see for myself)

you are right...
one the most taunted athletes coming in and very little real development into any position.
this one is baffling.

worse arm than JJ.

Throws a sweet bounce pass, though.
