What's the deal with this place? I've never eaten there, but it must be some awesome oysters.

I walked by there a few nights this weekend and the line to get in this place was jaw-dropping. I've seen shorter lines at Disney. Seriously, it was almost back to Bourbon St. Sunday night.

The only way I can see standing in a line like that to dine is if it was free, and then it better be some damn good stuff.

Hint. There are better places for oysters. It is pretty good no doubt though.

The one in the FQ isn't particularly big. But it is one of the cities more well known establishments. The lines are always like that if there is something going on in town. It's decent. Not mind blowing though.

I agree. I would not wait in the line. Kind of like Mothers to me.
Not bad, but I will leave that stuff to the tourist.

Wasn't trying to eat there, I can no longer eat shellfish. Just walking by to other places, like Mr. B's (thanks to those that mentioned this place).

I just couldn't believe the number of people standing in line for oysters when they're served in a lot of places in the Quarter.

Acme has been around for along time. The taxi drivers and consierges push people there. $$$$$$.

It is still pretty good. But, I wouldn't wait in line to go there.

Purely raw oysters my top five are:

5. Bozo's
4. Felix's
3. Remoulade
2. Manale's
1. No need to type the name out.

Blackened Out did a piece on Cassamento's the other day

Haven't seen him post here in awhile, though. I liked their insight around here

I think their charbroiled oysters are just as good as Dragos. The fried seafood is pretty good too.

Those are the safe bets.

They have some of the worst red beans & rice, etouffee and gumbo in the city. Really bad.

Their boiled crawfish have been horrible the two times I tried. I mean really bad. I can honestly say they have the worst I have ever tried in New Orleans. The only batch I got that was worse than the ones at Acme came from a Chinese Buffet in Austin, Tx.

In summary, the oysters are fine although insanely priced since BP. It is BS that you can buy a sack of 150 oysters for the cost of 24 at Acme.

I could have written that.

One small error... they fry in lard, not oil.

Super...

Acme is just blah for me. I'd go across the street to Felix's and get the same thing without having to wait in line.

I've been flabbergasted by restaurant lines before but this weekend was something else. Both of those places had lines at least 2 hours. For oysters! I don't even know how that works - do you get in line hours before you start getting hungry? I just can't imagine waiting for something like that. The wait at Bourbon House was an hour, not good but better than a 2 to 3 hour wait next door.

For lunch Monday I went to Vacherie cafe at Hotel St. Marie and had a great sandwich with no wait and good drinks. It's all about having a good base.
