Do you trust their testimony about out-of-body experiences and stuff?
Maybe the brain dies last and that's where all these visions of heaven, hell, and bright lights are from.
But maybe life really does go on.

people often hallucinate/have euphoric feelings as they die, a result of a rush of endorphins being released by the dying brain

<--------transected aorta and multiple fracture sites from MVA. Has seen the light in a cold, dark vortex before I came too in the car....no doubt in my mind, it was not my time (I am in a over 10 year bonus and counting).
Still get goosebumps thinking about it.

I believe they are telling the truth about what they saw, but I don't think soul actually leaves body until death

They didn't lie, they were tripping. Literally. When your body experiences great stress, like a near death experience, your brain releases a psychedelic chemical called DMT.

this doesn't explain my great grandmothers experience.
she was brought to the hospital unconscious and died on the operating table, never meeting any of the nurses or doctors that were there. She said she watched them operate on her and in an instant woke up. she was able to name every doctor and nurse in the room...first and last name. a "trip" or chemical release wouldn't cause that.

I'll say one thing, when I came out and reality set in, it was painful...I never experienced pain like that in my life...
Half my patella was laying on the floorboard, my ulna and radius was sticking out of my arm...and when I tried to move my leg, my femur was crushed and my calcaneus bone exploded and ripped out in my shoe.
It was not until the air vac medic pumped me with morphine I started to feel at peace.
I'll describe my near death as a cold, dark, being in a vortex being forced down a slide towards the light...when I hit the light, it was a "smack" into my chest with loud noises and then the pain hit.
Never want to be in that state again...too damn scary!

I trust that they believe what they think happened to them. Who knows what really happened.
What I find incomprehensible is people pointing to that "heaven is real" book ostensibly written by a four year old as some kind of proof.

I've read that book. How do you argue the fact that he knew things about his relatives that his parents never told him about? Or his sibling that died before it was born that they never told him about?
You think him and his parents are making all that up?
