Is Matt Viator feeling any heat there in Lake Charles?

It seems like McNeese football has stagnated and been stuck on dead center the last few seasons, throughout the 90s and the first part of the aughts, it was almost a given that the Cowboys would go deep into the 1AA playoffs.

I think a good candidate is a former McNeese assistant who is about to become a 1AA national-championship defensive coordinator, Scott Stoker.

I think Scott has redeemed himself; really I think the Northwestern State gig is a minefield--that school is almost as fundamentalist as Louisiana College and they want their head coach to be a yes man.

Is Viator going to remain at McNeese for the long haul or is there change in the wind?

he is mcneese's norv turner. Good regular season for the most part. terrible postseason. Everyone here likes him despite pausing away talent every year so he will stay. Not a big mcneese fan any longer but it is a shame how much talent has been flushed the last several years

Don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon although he may have to make some coaching/recruiter changes. He's got some asst coaches that need to go. The Viator name is prolific in coaching in the area so he will be given every chance to get the program back to where it was. Stoker has done a good job in Tx but he has a past here at McNeese and really don't see him ever coaching here again but there's no major changes going to be made anytime soon unless Matt would decide to leave on his own.

Somewhat McNeese related, how did JC do at SFA this season. I really don't consider Harper a McNeese guy since he was DL coach for Branch and DC for Miller at SMS.

i think he's feeling heat, but he'll get another season

his problem is that he's not a good head coach off the field. problems doing the PR work and he's not a good recruiter at all

back in the 90's and for the most part during tate's time mcneese was very successful at getting players from d-1 schools who for whatever reason decided to transfer and therefore were able to compete deep into the playoffs year in and year out. this was a big gamble bc many of them had attitude/school problems. they don't do that much anymore and viator is a shitty recruiter.

I've said for years he is a better OC than a HC. That's not a knock on him just, kind of like Wade Pillips with the Texans. He also has to get better talent and/or results out of D1 transfers, watch the finals today and listen or look for transfers on the two teams and their effect on the game.

and a big problem is that he's a bad recruiter, but still puts in all that time to run the offense himself

double killshot there. less time recruiting PLUS having a personality disadvantage

I saw in the paper today they losy Fobbs to Southern Miss, he was co-offensive coordinator. Be nice if he could bring in someone to boost recruiting.

Does McNeese use video board as a selling point still? We beat them in first game it was installed, the SLC tried to cheat us that night.

We for some reason decided to play them in home and home. The worst beating at home we took was the year Kavika Pittman made every damn tackle. Nellie was cussing out Miller to stop trying to throw and run. I think Pittman had 10 TFL at Plaster that night. We got rolled.

The Keesler and Tate teams were just more talented, never really out coached teams usually. But I didn't respect McNeese due to way you were treated by admin when playing there, we never got anything we requested, but made sure to honor theirs. Our AD went crazy the year I told them I wouldn't help them unload at stadium.
