Anyone have any bad experiences with outboard motors with fuel injection?

I have a 150hp yamaha Vmax HPDI outboard and after being layed up for a while, have all kinds of problems with it. The shop said they can't clean the injectors and would have to send it off to get them cleaned somewhere in Florida. And that possibly might not work. I'm looking at a minimum of $2,500 if I can salvage some of the injectors and parts and around $6,000+ if I have to change out the injectors and high pressure fuel pumps.

What kinds of problems are you having?

I had a problem last year with my outboard running rich and smoking. I had to send my injectors off to get cleaned or rebuilt and calibrated. If you have to send the injectors off i highly recommend sending them to Brucato Inc. They run tests, calibrate and clean, or rebuild them if necessary and set them back to factory specs. All 6 of mine had to be rebuilt and i didn't pay anywhere near that.

They told me my injectors and the fuel pumps are plugged up with bad/old gas. They tried to run tests and said they couldn't clean it. When I brought it in it wouldn't even start. It had laid up for about 1.5 years and I had about 10 gallons of fuel in the tank. I added about 40 gallons of new gas and tried to run it and it killed.

if you're absolutely certain its the injectors i would pull them myself and send them off to brucato, they will deal with you directly. They can probably rebuild them, it doesn't sound like you'll need new injectors, but good luck if you do, them things cost a pretty penny
