Need help with locating boat transducer NEW pics of transducer?

I'm gonna be replacing my lowrance fish finder/depth (any takers?) and replacing with a pimp lowrance gps thingy. I don't know where the hell the transducer is at. It's not on the transom. I'm thinking its in the hull. I looked in the hull where the bilge pump is and they have a black circular thing that has 2 wires coming out of it that is like bonded to the bottom of the hull... Is that the transducer? Maybe i can get a pic, kind of tough... Haven't had much time to get down and dirty and follow wires and shite yet.

I'll just have to cut it out?

Why not leave it in?

Just cut the wires and leave it in.

Some times you can use the same transducer you just need a new computer/software.
You can get in touch with the boat manf or look at your papers and see what they installed. then cross reference. If it wont work you can either replace or simply cut wires and add another transducer.

many people will buy units without transducers.
you can order and buy both separate.

I have no papers and there was nothing to read off of this black thing. I can't imagine it being anything else though.

would I sound completely stupid if I called cajun outboard and asked them if this sounds like the transducer they probably installed on the boat? I know the boat was bought from them.

Okay next part...I just called cajun outboards and he said it sounds like the transducer.
My next question... if I get my new wires coming from the transom to where this old transducer was, I can just tie the new wires to the old wires and pull them thru that way? Sound like an easy to to pull wires through when i got to take old ones out?

yeah i'm not. i'm going to do a transom mount on the next one. I'm gonna have to drill a hole through boat to get the wires in the bottom of the hull i guess. That sucks.

before you do this take it by a boat mechanic and just ask them the easiest way to do it

You should have holes in your transom to run the transducer wires through.

OK, first even if you could "pop" the old transducer off, most likely (if it were me) someone would want a new transducer in their boat. depending on the model they are pretty reasonable.
in theory yes, in practice-not always the case. you said there were 2 wires coming from the "black circular thing" , most thru hull transducers roughly a little smaller in diameter than a gatorade cap. do you also have a in dash flasher or another graph in the boat? they do make a transducer that has 2 wires so 2 graphs can work off the same transducer so please make sure before you go snip happy.

this sentence makes no sense at all.
please go talk to boat guy and have him look at your boat. They will make plenty of money selling you the stuff so they will usually be helpful in telling you how to DIY the project.
Don't go drilling holes in a fiberglass hull unless you know how to do fiberglass repair.
Last piece of advice. if you can run your wires inside of cheap 1/2" flexible exterior grade plastic conduit. It will prevent rodents from eating into them later and will cut down on the signal noise you get from wires with current laying beside the transducer cables.

What kind of boat? Also look at the bottom of the hull and see if the old ducer goes all the way thru, sometimes they just glassed it to shoot thru the hull. If that's the case you could loosen with acetone.
