play defense anymore...all these bowl games for the most part have basketball scores

You must watch shitty basketball games.
Creative offenses can overcome good defenses because the defense will always react to what the offense is doing. That is why there are high scoring games in the NFL even though the best defensive athletes in the county are playing.

Offense is the trend in all levels of football. There are still fantastic defensive teams but they are fewer than in years past. Similar to when Florida had Fun N Gun in the 90's. They were the one team that bucked tradition. Now the "score more than you, faster than you" trend is peaking. Coaches will adjust and i would imagine a shift back to "normal" offensive production
