My friend, my brother, and myself shot a limit of mallards this morning. It was a great hunt! First duck hunt I have been on all year. We were two shy of a limit at 9:00. Unloaded our guns and were about to leave. Look up and there were a couple of ducks coming in....then a couple more...and more. We quietly loaded guns and got ready. There were at least 75 to 85 mallards sitting on the water in just a few minutes. We let them all land and then proceeded to finish our limit! Picked up decoys and left quickly while they were still coming in. It was AWESOME!!!

Unless you live in the dessert there are bound to be places nearby that have ducks. Just have to get out and find them. Granted they may not be there all times but usually where there is some water, there are ducks at some time. I have found them in some very odd locations not known for a lot of ducks. Cow pasture being one of those places, road ditches, etc. Just gotta keep your eyes open at all times when riding down the road!

It's something I've wanted to get into for a while, but all of my friends only deer hunt.
I'm sure I could find a spot. I'm planning on making a few trips next year.

Just be ready to be patient. Some days you may not kill a duck. Gotta hang with them and don't get too discouraged and give up. One good hunt will be worth several bad ones!

This. River is falling out right now. Not falling out fast but we wont be able to get back to our spot until the river starts rising again. Who do you know in OG? This is where I live.

dumb question here ...I've been duck hunting about 10 times, love it ...but pretty much the same general area "New Iberia ish" ...never a lot of birds... I've never once had a bird come in where we "let it land"...when they are in range, we are all shooting....this is normal right ?
all you bastards with your limits and your 75 birds on the water

When I say we let them land, it is not to shoot them off of the water. We let them land so we can get several birds to come in to get more ducks shot. Every man shoot one or two when they get up instead of just shooting the first one or two that come into range. Make the most of the opportunity. Trust me...when you jump up in the boat and get your gun shouldered, they are getting in the air. They don't sit there and let you shoot them at will. Not shooting them on the water like some are thinking.
