I agree. If you don't know them, listen to our friend Buddy Songy. That's the only thing he calls them by.

same reason why we have cool avatars and siq quotes....because it helps us identify with others and we can, no big deal really.

Amen. It's one thing if a nickname comes naturally or given by other players/coaches.
But when people on a message board sit around and try to come up with nicknames, it's just sad. And embarassing.

Because it makes nerds on the Internet feel like they know them. Unless a player says he would rather be called by his nickname, I'll stick to the name on his jersey. I sat by Justin Vincent at an away game this year and a guy with us said "what's up JVince" like they were best friends. I'll never forget the look he got back.
