Every game I try to index a few expectations or hopes for the game. After it is over I list what I take away from that game. Sometimes the two matchup in praise or disapointment and some can be irrelevant. Here's my Game #13 list:

1. Too much reffing. I won't even say it was bad reffing, just way too big of involvement. The amount of ticky tack calls both ways was a distraction from the two teams playing. I think both coaches would have preferred whatever outcome that would have been with none of those calls over that show. I do think it would have not been near as close if that was the case. Games like that will turn fans sour on the NFL as a whole in the long run. It seemed the refs huddled and decided they were gonna call it ultra tight. Players on both sides were befuddled with "Huh??" looks.

2. The D isn't dominant and certainly has some issues. That said, I cannot complain with the Saints first ever 3 consecutive 10win making the playoffs seasons. The D has been good enough.

3. I've re-watched the second TD pass to Colston several times. I rank it as one of the most beautiful and perfect throws/plays Brees has ever had.

4. To the bitch n moaners about the defense (not the constructive criticizers)...
Chris Johnson 11 carries, 23 yards. I'm gonna bump that prediction thread. If pregame you knew they would shut him down and make him a non-factor, how many would have said "I'll take that game without knowing anything else."

5. How many more potential INTs did they miss yesterday? I really like our group of DBs. They are young and getting better. Tracy Porter is the only one that has great ball skills though. I'm kinda anxious to see what Johnny Patrick can add to the mix. He was a kick returner in college (like Porter) so he must have some hands.

6. It wasn't blizzard but the weather was a zero factor. Maybe the Saints playing outdoors talking heads diatribe will subside. I can envision Ivory & Ingram outdoing the Packers in inclement conditions.

Every game isn't pretty. We've had trouble on the road and people forget that getting the W is the most important part of the game usually.

Good Enough for regular season but wont be good enough for playoffs.

09 D wasnt that much better but got turnovers to make up for it.

In fact my prediction before the playoffs......that D will cost us a number 2 seed.

Understatement of the year.

Yes.

This is true. But it is still frustrating watching a rookie arse rape our defense the last 4 minutes of a game.

We can always hope. If there was a formula for beating the Packers, I think it definitely starts with running the ball a lot.

As said in earlier post I will take this Def. to the playoffs.
Positives on the Def.
We must be at the top of the league in tipped or mis directed balls by our Def. They just never go the right way or are just short of our guys.
We are near the top in forced fumbles but again always just out of reach on the recovery.
I believe we also rank top half of league in 3rd down Def and the red zone numbers have slowly been improving.

Where can we get the snaps takin by Def. players for us during the game anyone?

What can you say. The refs were getting paid per flag thrown. Just horrible to watch.

Its nice to see some other guys getting reps...Herring Humber Galette etc.

Great open field tackle by MJ on CJ!

The defense still sucks. That's what I take away.

The three consecutive 10+ win playoffs years doesn't strike you at all?

The offense has been good enough to compensate for what the defense lacks.

Still have a better defense than the Pats or the Pack.

of course. but your summation was just the D sucking. In the midst of vying for the 2nd seed and having the 2nd best record in the league that seems somewhat narrow and imbalanced to me.

I have no issue with discussing the particulars of what we would like to see different or better on defense. But the whole "they suck" generalities when you are going forward successfully as a team I don't get.

Sean Payotn's coaching at the end of the game needs a lot of work. He nearly cost the Saints the game yesterday by trying to pass on 3rd and 6 with 1:45 left in the game. The Titans had no t/o's and a rookie backup qb in the game. It is the duty of the coach to put the team in the best position to win. I don't believe the Titans would have had a chance with less than a minute and no t/o's. If the Saints were playing Rodgers and the pack, that would have been the right decision.

In games where the Saints have had to rely on defense to win, the defense has failed. The Saints have to rely on a very productive offense to win or else they're not going to do it. The Packers have the same strategy, but their offense is light years better this season and that's why they're 13-0 and the Saints are 10-3.

.. uhmmmm .. I take this away :

Coach SP can't read/understand game clock math, and can't call correct 3rd down play with 1:30 +/- left, when other team has no time outs, you have a 3rd down and 4th down play to run, and can take off more than 40 seconds of clock, run it down to well under a minute before punting, and leave maybe 30 secs time - but you elect to pass the ball and give other team a bonus minute ? ... WTF ? ! ... thats what I took away ...

Tired of the D whiners. The D doesn't suck. The Defensive schemes suck. When we man up on the outsides the D plays good. But all of the zone blitzes kill us. We need to take a page from LSU and just simplify things

uh the atltant game in OT? did the D not stop them twice in OT and even on a 4th and inches? ill take that as a victory for the defense

eta: and yesterday the offense mostly kicked field goals instead of TDs, so would that not be a victory for the defense only allowing 17 points to allow those FGs to win?

You are a fricking tard.

When this defense has needed to make a stop in the last three years, they have. Just get over the fact that were not gonna hold teams to 300 yards of offense evert week. They make the plays when need be. They did yesterday, and have in the past.

I really feel that every once and awhile, the other teams coaching staff seems to shut down our offense. Not for the whole game, but enough. How do we look so amazing against the Giants or the Bears defense, but struggle against the Rams or the the Titans?

I rewound that a few times myself. It was poetry in motion. Absolutely perfect.
