To keep this as simple as possible, my wife and I visited her Aunt and it was cold as a witches "you know what". When we went into her house, she freakin offered us a brandy, like it was 1850.
I'm a wisky / burbon drinker typically and only the only brandy I had had before was E&J while at LSU years ago. Very cold, I took the brandy and was instantly feeling .
I asked for the brand and she said Don Julio, or something like that. Any brandy suggestions?

What's with the 1850 comment? I like brandy and never thought of it as an "old" liquor. I like cognacs the best. Hennessey V.S.O.P. and Remy Martin V.S.O.P. are my favorites.

Gran Duque dAlba is a really good brandy. It's about $50 a bottle and can sorta hard to find. Martins (the one in nola) always seems to have it. It's even better if you drink it out of a brandy glass, neat of course.

You want to go with the VSOP over the VS....Price is a direct indicator of quality.

If you can, go find some Calvados, which is apple brandy. In Europe it is traditional to serve Cafe brandy caldo(coffee with warmed brandy as a apperetif to meals.
