I was asked how many LSU players have ever been invited up to NYC for the ceremony. I know Billy Cannon is the only winner but who else got an invited or was on the ballot? Maybe Tommy Cassanova? Not sure.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I believe Charles Alexander made the trip.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Glenn Dorsey get invited?

Dorsey did not get the invite up to NYC. The last Tiger to make the trip was Charles Alexander.

Since broadcasting the Heisman under the current format is relatively new I believe TM7 is the first LSU player invited to New York for the ceremony.

This.
The names mentioned in this thread played at a time when there was little fanfare other than an announcement associated with the Heisman.
Hell, there was a time when players didn't realize the had won until days later.

He wasn't invited but he ended up 6th or 7th in the final Heisman standings.

If I'm not mistaken, Dorsey finished 9th.
As has been said Cannon, Stovall, Alexander, and now Mathieu are the only Tigers to ever be invited.

Tommy Casanova finished second in the voting did he not?

Cannon may have gone to New York to pick up his trophy but it would have been after he had won. He was not invited and neither was Stovall or Alexander to attend any kind of ceremony that we have today.
Mathieu is the first under the current format.

Mathieu is the first under the current format.
So the format has changed. The point is all of those guys were finalists.

Invited to what? To something that didn't exist when they played?

There were no recognized finalists until ESPN created a show for it. There was a winner who was notified to come collect his trophy.

I think he just means top ten. Add Dorsey (9th in 2007), and he's right on.
