by dropping the Honey Badger nicknamke.

Now before the first 20 little kids come one here and flame away and tell me to shut up, consider this:

He hates the nickname. If you listened to his interview on Scott Van Pelt today he OBVIOUSLY hates the name, but at the same time he's honored enough to not say so. All season long, in fact, he's quietly protested the nickname. So, since he is the first LSU Tiger since 1978 to get invited to the Heisman Trophy ceremony I think he's earned the right to shed a nickname he hates.

the nickname wasn't meant as a shot at his size.

that's what he thought at first.

the "takin what he wants" and "not giving a shite" is what it's all about.

He is know around the country as Honey Badger. It's catchy, it's easy to say. 95% of the people outside of cajun land can't pronounce nor spell his real name. Not to mention, anytime you have Vern Lundquist saying, "He takes what he wants," you've got a good thing going.

Not everyone saw/heard Van Pelt's interview. Just based on the original thread I see no reason, or quote, or context that would suggest Honey Badger does not like his name.

Mike Linebacker named the man Honey Badger and I'm gonna call him the Honey Badger.

Seriously, if there is more to the story, I'd like to know.

You act like you know his thoughts and feelings. Unless you are a friend you are basing this all on assumptions and you obviously are just against the nickname

some of our fans are soooo stupid

the entire nation knows this young LSU Tiger as the HoneyBadger and you, being the genius that you clearly are, want us and the rest of America to stop doing it

America and the media love a good nickname. "The Honey Badger" was perfect for him, and it caught on like wildfire.

The "Honey Badger" monicker added another reason for people to notice Tyrann's skills, his accomplishments, and the accolades he has deservedly received.

I heard the SVP interview and he was in NO WAY anti-Honey Badger.

He was asked about his persona and he merely stated that he had to remember to be Honey Badger ON THE FIELD and Tyrann Mathieu when he was OFF THE FIELD.

That was the only reference to the name at all.
