It's a 12 game playoff. You play 12 games. You play in a conference. You have to win your division in the conference to get to the championship game. (if your conference has divisions)

Once you get to the Championship game, if you win, you may be eligible for the BCSMNC game. (depending on the ranking of champions)

If you lose in the regular season, to an eventual conference champion, then you're screwed because you lost in the playoffs. See each game counts...

This is the real world and hopefully LSU will get another top 10 team to play come January 9th and beat them soundly and go down as one of the greatest teams in college football history.

Bama, sorry, but you lost in the playoffs.

these type of scenarios only work if every team is in a conference and every conference has divisions and a championship game

Top 8 BCS teams need to play in playoff. Simple as that. If youre not in top 8 too bad, but i think everyone can agree that anyone who thinks they should honestly get a shot at title should be in top 8 at least.

The point is that the regular season is the play off.

Teams not in a conference already have a deal with the BCS.

The point is that Bama lost their play off game.

Bad idea. This assumes that all conferences are equal strength-the're not! In a situation like this you would have a bunch of unrated teams playing in the playoffs and teams ranked in the top five left out.

Any other idea makes the regular season moot.

Games are supposed to mean something.

This was not a game in the early season, it was NOVEMBER. Titles are won in November.

If it were LSU in Bama's position, I don't think we'd get the benefit of the media.

As super conferences are created schedule inequality is going to increase, and non conference champions are going to play for the BCS more often.
Also why does a team in the big 12 have a 1 in 10 shot of winning their conference while a sec school has a 1 in 14 shot starting next year. Isn't that unfair? You have a 30 percent better chance of winning your conference. I think conference champions are going to become less revelant.

If conference championships are less relevant, then just make the BCSMNC trophy to the SEC offices in Birmingham every year cuz I don't see the SEC losing any time soon.

So, the champion of the Sunbelt Conference has more right to play in the NC than Alabama and Stanford? Get real.

go the the top 6. bottom 4 have a round to get rid of 2. then the 4 are seeded for the final 2 rounds.

Major conferences get auto bid - sec, acc, pac 10, big 10, big 12. last bid is at large.

Well hell.

If two teams from the same conference or divisions can't be in it, LSU should immediately leave for the Big East.

Why not conference USA or the WAC?

Why should we fight in the hardest conference if there is no benefit?

8-16 (128) team conferences. each conference split into 2-8 team division. you when your division you go to the conference championship. you win the conference championship, you go to an 8 team playoff. you win the playoff you win it all. add the cotton bowl and another as BCS bowls and use the 6 BCS bowls as play off rounds. then have the BCSNC. you have weaker and stronger conferences in every sport with a playoff it is the nature of the beast. and because you have to when your division and conference (no wild cards) the regular season would still be relavent.
