in the NFL? Only the conference winner makes it to the big dance. I'm tired of Bama fans spinning this situation like college basketball, saying that you can play more than once and the last game is the only important one.

This is my spin, think back to the NFL mid 2000's when the two best teams were in the AFC.

Win your conference. Play for championships.

Other than that I hope we beat the hell out of Bama!

What happens in a double-elimination or round robin tournament? Think the last winter Olympics - the US went 1-1 with Canada...and lost the gold.

Unless the other team wins the wild card.

Same thing that happened in 2009 NFC Championship - one team goes on to play for all the marbles and the other team stays home the loser.

The Saints and Vikings were the two best teams that year.

Granted, NFC North vs NFC South, but consider the NFC the same thing as the SEC in that comparison.

The 2nd place team gets a WC and has to win 2 games to your 1 for the right to have a rematch.

different system...under the BCS, the two best teams should be able to play for the title, regardless if they are in the same division in the same conference.

I'm referring to the superbowl, not the divisional championship.

Wow.

Do you understand how the NFL playoff system works at all?

When the Giants beat the Patriots in 2007, the Giants did not win the NFC East.....

Just one of many examples.

NFL =/= CFB.

I see what you are trying to do, but you failed.

The division winner gets a bye and the other team has to go play a wild card game somewhere. In college football it works the other way around.

Well, presumably, if the second best team is a wildcard they get a rematch in the Conference Championship.

What's your point?

OP is referring to Conferences as Divisions... Makes me not care about his opinion.

You are correct, a very flawed system in my opinion. But, I have no doubt that we will take care of bidness! I hate living in this land of the delusional's!

If anyone can provide a link to the official BCS stance on the 2 best teams play each other for the NC ....I will stand corrected.

Has a NFC or AFC team been better the team representing each conference in the superbowl?

The biggest factor that people are failing to realize is the best team does not always win.

How often does the best team end up in the final four?

Whats more? The big 10 is perceived and has been told to us all year how it's the superior conference this year.

Arkie struggled to beat their fifth best team

correction, the No. 1 and No. 2 will play for the title, regardless if they are in the same division of the same conference.

You may not like the comparison and it may not be perfect but they do have a point with the NCAA basketball comparison and the concept of rematches being the same. The difference is that you're dealing with 64 teams instead of 2. BTW, was it fair that Georgetown's basketball lost a national title in 1985 when they lost to a Villanova team that they had beaten TWICE during the regular season?
