Getting Kiel would potentially put rivers 4th on our QB depth chart...., would that make him want to transfer to somewhere he will play or would he stay and battle for his position and playing time

Why would a top QB transfer before losing a position he has yet to even compete for. Stupid hypothetical.

I don't know if you can assume this would be the case.

Miles will go to a 4-QB platoon rotation.

One quarter each will keep the bullpen's arms & legs fresh all season, while simultaneously meriting seniority & sensational froshs with snaps.

Rivers can also potentially keep Kiel from seeing a meaningful snap until he is a senior. If he is anything like his brother, he isn't going to back down from competition. He'll at least hang around until after Mett leaves.

Rivers was a 3-star and Kiel is a 5-star. Definitely a large difference in quality of evaluation, but as you said, essentially meaningless when it comes to competing for the position over the next few years. Both have the skills and physical talent to be great.

I've seen a few people who are not high on Kiel at all. Not sure why. He has a good arm, nice touch, seems to understand the intellectual aspect of the QB position, and has the legs to extend plays, as well as run the Option/Read out of the spread. Seems ideal for LSU's current offense.

A hypothetical based on a hypothetical based on a hypothetical. Cool.

Rivers will actually play in 2012 while Kiel will certainly redshirt. All of this will work itself out in time. By the time Gunner Kiel even plays a down in a game Rivers will be in his 3rd year in the system as a Sophomore. If he can't play ahead of a freshman, he's transferring to an FCS school to play his last 2 years.

If he would even transfer. Lots of kids are perfectly happy sitting the bench and enjoying the ride. Not everybody has delusions of grandeur. Hell, Matt Cassel made it to the NFL without ever being a starter in college, and he lost the job to a younger player in Leinart.

It's generally tough to predict what these guys will do, how they'll handle situations, or if they're even good enough to even play.

I think those people are hung on the fact that Kiel is from Indiana. A center over there is the 7 foot dude standing underneath the basket.

Matt Mauck respectfully disagrees.

I love those comments.

Someone posted the other day that Landon Collins is already better than Craig Loston.

So you attend practice everyday and have seen who is doing what. Why don't you guys give it a rest? Rivers could turn out to be great. His brother is one of the best in the NFL right now. His offensive line is garbage but he still passes for plenty of yardage. Some of you shouldn't down someone that you haven't seen play. From every depth chart that I have seen, he is behind Mett. And Les speaks highly of him.
