"Heh. What a funny guy."

One thing that always pisses me off in HA2 is when Kate is bitching at the Plaza staff after Kevin has run off. "Because of you, my son is lost in New york on Christmas eve."

No bitch. Because you're shite parent who lost track of her kid for the 2nd time in a year, your son is lost in New York on Christmas eve.

No way I'm reading this thread but has this observation been noted yet:

In one of the final scenes, Kevin escapes to his tree house from the house via his zip line leaving both robbers alone in the house....

BUT instead of carrying out their initial objective (robbing the house) they decide to crawl across the zip line like a couple of idiots in order to go after Kevin.

Kevin left the robbers alone in the house. The robbers could have said "Thanks!" and looted the shite out of that place.

Even before all the unpleasantness, the robbers had plenty of opportunities to rob an empty house.

Kevin goes to see Santa, to church, walks around admiring other families, all of which takes hours. Instead, they "go get a bite to eat" and arrive promptly at 9.

Do we know this for sure? The bandits arrive at 9. How long can we estimate it took from that point to when the bandits were taken away in the police cars. Probably 2 hours minimum? After the day he had, are we to assume that an 8 year old took the time (later than 11:00 pm) to clean up:

feathers in the dining room
broken ornaments in the living room
burned curtains on the kitchen door
tar all over the basement stairs
toy cars at the landing of the main stairway
ice on the front steps
paint cans and a pipe hanging from the bannister

There's no way. Dude wrecked that house.

The front of the house looked pretty clean.

He probably told that old man he'd better help him clean up or he was gonna call the cops and tell them the dude touched his peep.

To be fair, Kevin as well as the viewer overheard them say "we'll come back around 9".

Harry and Marv aren't aware anyone else heard them, so they were just sticking to their original plan the whole time. Can't really fault em for that.

I love how Kevin just takes two burglars at their word in terms of timing and believes they'll show up exactly at 9, so he just decides to leave the house for a while.

Two guys are coming back at 9 to ransack my house? Guess I better leave the house for a few hours beforehand, just as long as I'm back by 8.

Yeah I mean if I was Kevin I wouldn't have left at all. I'm just saying that this is ONE instance of the burglars not just being complete idiots. The notion that they're big dummies because kevin was gone all day and then they showed up promptly at 9 isn't really accurate. They said they'd come to do the job at 9, and they did.

This makes me also question how Kevin gets left alone in the house after all of this crap went down. The old man just saved an 8 year old from being brutally tortured and murdered, then decides it's probably ok to let the kid stay alone immediately afterwards.

well, the old man probably got out of dodge as soon as the cops showed up because he has priors.

The cops didn't want to spend Christmas protecting some little shite kid. We already covered the fact that the cops were crappy-not answering phones, trying to pursue a little scared kid on ice because some little shite store clerk told him to, etc.

You don't understand the mind of Kevin McAllister. Kevin is a narcissistic socio-path. He operates on a carnal and criminal intelligence level higher than most other people on this planet. He is often compared to the likes of Jack Bauer, in his field. Kevin looks at these situations as an artist would look at a canvas and palette. He is painting a masterpiece.

Kevin leaves because he plays a kind of mental olympics with himself on the validity of his assumptions of triumph over his victims. Every theory that he can then validate serves to enhance his ego/spirit and fortitude that much more.

I think that both you and I and all of the people involved understand that Kevin is perfectly capable of spending the night at home alone.

I didn't go through everyone's posts, but has anyone brought up the idea of Kevin's mom just simply calling the damn house? She's at the airport in part 1 worried about Kevin... why not pick up a damn payphone and see if he's at home and is safe?
