Open Carry in Louisiana. Do you?

I did today without any problems. On the way to the woods and the sidearm was on when I stopped to get drinks and snacks before and after. As always, no problems.

Just be careful with that. Many stores have signs designating them as firearm free zones.

No reason not to do it. Open carry is no problem with me whatsoever.

What is the purpose going into a store for drinks?

I have no personal problem with open carry. AL is an open carry state. I would not personally do it, and I would not advocate someone doing it if concealed carry was available to them. Why?
Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent’s fate.
The formation and procedure used by the military should not be divulged beforehand.

When in uniform [open carrying] I also wear a vest and have even more tools at my disposal to defend myself and my weapon that is open carried. When I am off duty or working out of a uniform I have the element of surprise. That is a powerful element that wins deadly force encounters more times than not. Now the example of being in the woods changes that opinion.

I don't open carry when going out to just go out. I do however will if I am going to the range or to the woods. I put it on at home and if I have to stop to get gas, drinks, or whatever, it is there. Nothing to it.
If I was to carry on a regular basis, then I would get my CCW.

Be careful going to places while open carrying. I never have done so bevause I got my conceal carry permit but I believe you are not able to enter any business which sells alcohol. If I am remembering correctly. I am sure someone who knows for sure will chime in.

Actually TN just made it legal to carry in bars and places that sell alcohol. Can you believe that bodies have not had to be stacked up in the street from all the carnage? [sarcasm meter check]
ETA: You still have to be sober ie the DD or the like.

consumption of alcohol
You can conceal carry in a resturant which serves alcohol as long as you don't sit at the bar and you have your CCW. Open Carry is still not allowed in a resturant which serves alcohol for on site consumption.

If you want a long read go here:
Open Carry Discussion with LEOs
Open carrying for the wrong reason is dumb idea. I'm all for most of society being armed and proficient. I hold the responsibility higher than making a political statement. That is just my opinion.

In La you're not allowed to carry in a class A establishment.
Something to remember about open carrying. You set yourself up for attention. Many people aren't aware of the law and will call 911 if they see someone walking round with a gun. If you are approached by LE, make sure you handle it appropriately. Don't be a douche just cause you are within your right.

And it sounds like you could. Not all cops are gun people. Granted you stand a better chance of having a good encounter with LE in this region of the country.

Here's the relative LA revised Statute for those interested:
14:95.5
§95.5. Possession of firearm on premises of alcoholic beverage outlet
A. No person shall intentionally possess a firearm while on the premises of an alcoholic beverage outlet.
B. "Alcoholic beverage outlet" as used herein means any commercial establishment in which alcoholic beverages of either high or low alcoholic content are sold in individual servings for consumption on the premises, whether or not such sales are a primary or incidental purpose of the business of the establishment.
C. The provisions of this Section shall not apply to the owner or lessee of an alcoholic beverage outlet, or to an employee of such owner or lessee, or to a law enforcement officer or other person vested with law enforcement authority acting in the performance of his official duties.
D. Whoever violates the provisions of this Section shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars or imprisoned for not more than six months, or both.
Acts 1985, No. 765, §1.

As I understand from my friends that have a chl, texas will not allow you to carry in a business that makes more than 50% of its profits from alcohol sales, however most of them that fall in this category put a sign out that says 50.1 or something like that to signify that you cannot carry.
I go open carry when deer hunting in mississippi but I don't put my gun on my belt until I am leaving m$y truck and going into the woods. Wish we were like arizona though...

51% sign, and it MUST be posted in plain sight.

So carrying in a gas station that sales liquor is ok, but not bars/restaurants? If I'm reading that correctly.

This is sorta like saying you walked through Mall City, or through Gardere Lane, and nothing happened to you ----- so it must be safe.
Walking through there isn't a safe thing to do, and you were lucky that nothing happened.
99% of people who open carry do so for one (or more) of the following reasons:
A. They want to "exercise their rights"
B. They want to "educate" the public" about the 2nd amendment.
C. They refuse to "bow down to the man" and pay for a CCW permit --- because they should not have to pay money for a right.
While all of these may be laudable goals, they miss the point.
1. We carry a gun for protection.
2. We don't go around attacking people -- the gun is for our use "just in case" we are attacked. (Ambushed).
3. If you are ambushed, you'd better have clear understanding of when you can, and cannot, legally use deadly force in Louisiana (or where ever you are).
4. If you are ambushed while open-carrying, you'd better have very good gun-retention skills. Because the BG (bad guy) knows exactly where you carry your weapon, and he'll take it if he wants it.
5. Cops get all this training. So when they open-carry, they are prepared for gun grabbers.
6. The rest of us carry concealed, so that an ambusher won't even know, (until it's too late), that we have a gun. Much less does he know where it is hidden on my body.
7.In taking my CCW classes, and other handgun training, I have clear picture of when I can justifiably use deadly force to defend myself and others.
8. I also know what to do if a BG tries to take my weapon.
9. From my training I know the capabilities, and the limitations of, my handgun.
10. MY training included sessions with the top handgun instructors on this planet. They have taught me more than just "how to shoot a pistol." They have taught me how to FIGHT with a pistol.
11. MY instructors have taught me to have an attorney retained to defend me in the event I have to shoot someone. And they helped me find the right lawyer.
If you have all these skills, you may be good-to-go with your open carry. If you lack any of these, you are a menace -------- to yourself and/or to the public.
Get some serious training. You'll find that there's Little (If any) need to open carry once you have a quality holster, a good gunbelt, and the proper "carry cloths." Concealed carry lets you maintain the element of surprise.
REMEMBER: If you're the dude open-carrying, you're also the dude with the "SHOOT ME FIRST" sign on his chest. If something bad goes down, you'll be viewed as he first threat that needs to be eliminated.

So you can't carry in any establishment that has alcohol sales over 50% of their total sales even with a CCP?
Some of this thread is confusing.
