LSU's 103 ranked passing O should be a top 5 destination for any top QB.

I know that I may sound like a rantard but hear me out. LSU QB's have thrown for 18tds with only 3 ints in a pure prostyle system. LSU gives a qb a big stage to showcase their talent in a low risk high reward system, that also runs deep and midrange routes, where one can show his arm strength. As efficient as our system has made our QB's look if I am a Barkley or Luck type of recruit I am licking my chops at what I could accomplish at LSU.

We need to get you out on the recruiting trail, son.

I would have vehemently disagreed with you last year, when Crowton was our OC. Frankly, any top QB should have seen that offense and ran far far away. And they did. However, there is definitely a place for a highly rated pro-style QB in this offense. Lee has shown that in glimpses, but Mettenberger will really showcase it next year. If the Krags-Studs tandem sticks around, I would anticipate that LSU becomes a place that attracts highly rated QBs beginning next year. What will be interesting is to see whether LSU goes after pro-style or dual-threat QBs, as we've had somewhat of an identity crisis in that respect.

It's truth. Luckily, we are in it for a top-rated passer this year. I think the word is already out. Mettenberger last year, and looks from Kiel this year. When Mettenberger shows what a true pro-style passer can do at LSU next year, well only have more looks from QBs

I think Mettenberger may open the eyes of some recruits. As for Kiel, I still think we'll finish 2nd for him.

Gonna have to open up the passing game a lot more with Mett next year if we wanna attract these top notch out of state guys. I hope they allow Mett to sling it around a lot more, and not just play conservative. Works great for winning ballgames with this D, but the bigtime outta state QB's and recievers wanna play in a wide open offense. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Hmmm and here I am just happy with the great talent and winning LSU is doing with the silly ol' running game. Ill say it in case you haven't heard it yet LSU is run a whole lot first, then try to catch them sleeping with a long range to middle pass. What QB would really want that? In case some don't know they have the biggest egos on the field and I can see a top ranked QB clashing with Coach Miles.

Bottom line is top QB recruits want to throw the ball. They will continue to go to the OUs/USCs etc...of the world as long as they throw the ball a lot. We don't need a top QB to win a national championship and we proved that in 2003, 2007 and are doing it once again this year without one. Guys like Gunner Kiel will probably continue to be pipe dreams for us, and I'm fine with that as long as we keep winning. Our style of winning is very defense/special teams/run offense oriented and it's a great combination.

I agree and love your optimism. However, as the next poster said,

I think this identity crisis can be an issue with some. Top recruits are not going to like the probability of splitting time.

That being said, I do hope (as others suggested) that the "Barkley or Luck" types see this year;s rotation situation as a function of missing with Perilloux and forcing our current QBs to play before they were ready. Also, I think Kragthorpe's pedigree shows through and gets us in the mix for the top recruits.

As long as Les is the coach, LSU will be a dominant run team.

LSU doesn't need a superstar at QB. It would be nice, but not needed.

Jrussel says hey. I know miles did not recruit him but he let him throw the ball 25 times a game.

This.

which is why i think Les is high on a guy like Liggins. He could sit a couple years and develop and trim his body a little. On film he is a more powerful and natural runner than Jordan, and if he loses some weight probably just as fast. He's a better touch passer as well.

The Lee/JJ era ends in 3 games. LSU will return to the JR/Rohan passing production under Mett.

We have always gotten the top tier QB recruits in my opinion. Most of our quarterbacks have also had legit shots to make NFL rosters after they have played. Bottom line is we are the best dam team in the country and year in and year out we recruit the best prospects across the board. No reason to have a pass heavy offense if we have six 4 star running backs ready to run over someone. You come to LSU if you want to compete for championships. You go other places if you want to pad your stats.

2002
Lester Richard 4 Star
2003
JaMarcus Russell 4 Star
Matt Flynn 4 Star
2005
Ryan Perrilloux 5 Star
2007
Jarrett Lee 4 Star
2008
Jordan Jefferson 4 Star
2009
Chris Garrett 3 Star
Russell Shepard 5 Star later converted to WR
2010
Zach Lee 4 Star last minute signed a major league contract
2011
Zach Mettenberger 4 Star
Jerrard Randall 4 Star
Stephen Rivers 3 Star

Honestly with our offense top tier Qb's are great but we've put up forty plus points twice this year without any more than ten completions, I'd be more worried about our offense attracting top wideouts, I feel like having consistent deep threats on the outside is more important than having drew brees at QB

With LSU being situated in the heart of Louisiana, I don't think that the tigers will ever have a shortage of wideouts.

I'll take a Mauck/Flynn game manager over a Russell/Perrilloux type ANY DAY!
