It makes no sense. That's the reason it's somewhat effective.

The best way to counter such an ad hominem attack would be to accept it and then diffuse it.

So Why do some LSU fans smell like corndogs?

a) it's the smell of Victory.
b) it's the smell of LSU kicking your team's arse.
c) When certain spices in Jambalaya are mixed with large quanities of Bourbon oozing from one's pores, it can create a distinctive odor. (this should be dead panned with a very serious face).

I like 'C', but am open to suggestions. I do believe we (The Rant) should establish the one and only true myth as to why opposing fans cling to the corndog aroma.

The "insult" is repeated by others simply because it clearly gets under the skin of so many LSU faithful. In the future simply say "thank you, corndogs are delicious". Do that often enough and consistently enough and it will soon go away.

Keep taking offense and other fanbases will keep pouriong it on.

I'll embrace the insult.

It is rather a suspicious insult since Louisiana is so well known for its cuisine

I suggest shitting in a bag and smacking them in the head with it. It will end the corn dog talk and probably give us a new name.

Jesus Tapdancing Christ...the insult was never about LSU fans. It was originally written by some midwestern fan about an opposing team's fanbase (I'm thinking Iowa-Iowa St) where CORN is actually an issue. Then some AU fan co-opted it, changed the names and presto. It was funny and it stuck, but none of it was based on anything...at least not about us.

Best response...shake your head and mumble, "You're a fricking idiot."

Yea I don't really see this as an insult. Corn dogs are delicious as frick. We all know how it's lame they stole it from a Nebraska insult but I can live with that. Everytime a buddy from another SEC school calls me a corndog I tell them they're delicious as frick. They usually quit afterwards.

I think perhaps this is why I don't like saying "because we love corndogs". That, and actually, I don't like corndogs.

I do agree with those posters who say the best way to counter it is to accept it.

True, but doesn't change anything.

point of the thread .. whether it has any real basis or not, we're stuck with it.

I was hoping for something a little wittier.

What I found pretty funny was two years ago I was in downtown Oxford. An Ole Miss fan approaches me and calls me a corndog. The funny part is that 10 feet away there was a corndog stand with a line of ole miss fans waiting to get one.

I like corndogs and have never been insulted by the saying.
It does show how lame people are who call you that though. Just stealing things from other schools and adopting it as your own.
But auburn stole our mascot, music, tiger designs.
Not a very inventive group over there.

That has gotten under the skin of exactly 0 LSU fans. At worst, people are confused by it. That's why I can never have a problem with it.

Fill ziploc bags with flat beer....made to look like piss. Hit a few people who use the corndog reference with "piss" bombs. End of corndog moniker. Personally, the corndog thing is so lame I usually give no reaction.

This could work. The whole schtick is something Aubies stole from Ok/ Nebraska. They can't explain why they stole it, and they can't explain why the say War Eagle.

It doesn't deserve anything wittier, which was the point of my response.

Had idiot LSU fans not gotten so upset of a clearly lifted insult 10 years ago, it would have past into internet lore and no one would have ever remembered it.

We're stuck with it because people respond to it...

i was under the impression its what the old big 8 members called nebraska fans, cornhuskers-corndogs.

my biggest problem with it is its unoriginality. its sad thats the best some people can come up with- reusing another team's insult and somehow its spread like wildfire.

If smelling like corndogs is wrong, I don't want to be right.
