Can someone catch me up on new CoD and Zelda?

I consider myself a pretty casual gamer (I buy maybe one game every four months), and I'm looking for some direction.
I'm excited about these two games, and I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything since I'm not too in tap with the gaming community.
1. Call of Duty's Modern Warfare 3 (for Xbox 360) -- Do I need to preorder this? If I go to a walmart/best buy upon the release, will they be sold out for weeks? Is there extra content from preordering it that I need to be aware of? Is just buying the $60 disc enough?
2. Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (for Nintendo Wii) -- I haven't played Wii since my roommates and I got one from CraigsList on the cheap. I have only the most basic remote and sensor (whatever was current when the Wii was first released), and a friend was telling me I need new hardware for this game. What should I be looking to buy to make this game work? Do I actually need a new sensor and Wii-mote?

MW3 = kill Russians, enjoy Michael bay-esque action sequences, get noon toobed, rinse, and repeat.
Zelda = explore dungeons, acquire inventory, kill Ganon, PROFIT.

Everything is correct except for the highlighted area. He's not in Skyward Sword.

well, I get what the games are about, but I'm looking for direction on what I need to buy to make the most of these two releases. Any thoughts on that?

you can pre-order the normal version of COD ($60), but you cannot pre-oder the hardened edition ($175) any longer.
Activision puts a cap on these things and as of Tuesday afternoon, when i spoke to a GameStop rep, the cap has already been surpassed and there is no news on uppings the cap.
the hardened edition is the special edition. i don't exactly know all the swag that comes with it, but i know that once you pay the extra for the hardened edition you get all the DLC for free and in montly increments.
i don't know anything about zelda.

As I understand it you can get MW3 and the Elite package and have the same thing as hardened. I learnt that yesterday.

ahhhh, thanks broke. guess that's what i'll be doing. i don't need the pretty casing and swag that comes with the Hardened edition.
OP, the Elite Package, from what I understand is the DLC rights and Elite subscription. Elite is basically like a supe'd up version of players COD player card. a stat stuffed facebook of COD per say.

Skyward Sword uses the latest Wii Motion + device, but they offer a bundle that comes with that. I'm not 100% sure it is required, but I believe it is. I would go ahead and get the bundle either way because it will probably be a better experience.

It is required. You can preorder the bundle that comes with a gold Wii Remote Plus, or you can buy it separately. If you want to go cheaper, you can buy the Wii Motion Plus dongle that plugs into the bottom of your existing Wii remote.
