How many of you would have pinch hit for Chris Carpenter in the 6th inning last night. Be honest. Carpenter had an 87 pitch count. it was cold and drizzling and pinch hitters generally average in the low .200's -- in the best of conditions.

I was thinking at the time it was too early to pull your #1 starter. Maybe that's why La Russa gets the big $$$.

P.S. All you nimrods who love to come on to baseball posts and ask stuff like "what teams were playing" or say "it's football season now" -- give it a rest.

Yeah, I thought that was a pretty ballsy move. I didn't like the call at the time, but obviously with that bullpen they have, you don't need your ace to go 8...

Yep. Right or wrong, I still can't believe he did it. Took a big risk.

Today, La Russa is a baseball genius. But if Craig would have struck out and the Rangers would have bombed Salas (which they almost did) La Russa would be a bum today.

My tweet from this AM regarding the game last night:

Last nights battle of wits between TLR and Ron Washington was brutal. Its like if I was playing chess vs. Garry Kasparov...just not fair.

I wouldn't have done it. They are REALLY lucky it worked out. Craig was totally overpowered. It turned out to be the right call since Craig somehow managed to slap a ball down the line, but I think if he bats 10 times in that situation he only gets a hit once or twice.

I can't figure it out -- the Rangers and Ron Washington. He's still there and even after testing positive for cocaine.

(As someone said about JJ and Coach Miles), Washington must have pictures of Nolan Ryan naked.

I have berated him many a time in Rangers threads, but cocaine or not, he is in his second consecutive WS. You can't argue with those results.

That's true. But the Rangers are flat out S-T-A-C-K-E-D.

I thought it was so obvious that I unleashed a torrent of profanity when Wash "unintentionally" walked the absolutely worthless Nick Punto. I thought a third grader would've made that move, given how well the Cards' bullpen has been this postseason.

Wash simply gave the Cards a run, and then refused to try and score runs in the 7th. I'm still pissed about it.

Last year that was certainly the case. He was better this year, mainly in the regular season.

Right or wrong it give Carp a shorter outing and makes him stronger in his next outing, so IMO it was a genius move as a Monday morning QB.

nailed it. Wash basically forced La Russa's hand.
