Anyone own one or heard anything about them? I've heard that their new model does not require the new urea/emission standard "stuff," unlike the new Powerstroke. I've also heard that their previous models had some transmission issues and was curious if anyone knew if that had been addressed. Any input would be appreciated.

I have a 02 dodge diesel. Love the engine but tranny sucks. Buddy has a 2010 dodge diesel and he likes it. I think it has a six speed tranny and shifts at the right points.

I also have a 08 ram 1500 with the five speed and really like that tranny. Wish my diesel had the new tranny.

I have an 08 with the 6speed auto. It handles all the power additions ive done and oversized wheels and tires very well. Nearly 90k miles on it and still shifts as smootly as the day I drove it off the lot.

my buddy has on 08 superduty and that thing lives in the shop.

It's the best engine dropped in the shittiest truck out of the big 3. I like the dodge because they still offer a manual tranny in the HD models (damn you chevrolet ). I know of nothing but problems with fords since they got away from the 7.3.

Yes, look how crappy this truck is

To the OP, the good thing about the Ram 2500 is that you can get a six speed manual in it. If that's not your thing, you can opt for the 6 speed automatic, which as far as I know, is a good transmission. It's the 5 speed 545rfe transmission that most complain about...which even that isn't a terrible trans...certainly not as bad as most make it out to be.

Didn't say the truck looked crappy I just do not think they are as built tough as they use to be. The quality is just not there to last for what a 2500 is suppose to do. Now if you do not do anything with it except drive it back and forth to work then it might last you forever.

I looked at Dodge, Ford, & Chevy and ended up getting a Ford for my personal truck. I do buy Dodges for work trucks.

PowerWagon laughs at this statement.

The redesigned models have only been out since '09 or '10. Initial quality reports have been excellent on the Ram trucks...long term is somewhat yet to be seen, but with a Cummins under the hood it's safe to assume it'll be just fine.

Jordan is the biggest dodge fanboy on the site. Mention dodge trucks and there he is. I agree, good engine in a shitty truck.

Fwiw, i drive a gmc duramax.

I accept my title.

That being said, mention Ford or GM and pretty much all of you are in as well. I usually respond to any truck thread as I am a truck enthusiast overall. I like all the other makes and models, but my first truck was a Dodge and so is my current truck, so the bias has stuck.

And I also reply to try to dispel ignorant posts such as "good engine in a shitty truck". Most that say that haven't driven, much less looked over, a new Ram.

ETA: Basically, if you say any truck available from the Big 3 right now is shitty, you are a biased fanboy of one of those brands. They are all making some incredible trucks right now.

Duramax is trouble free, but the 2011 requires urea. Stuff is pretty cheap. If money is a issue, go with the dodge . As someone said "great engine ,shitty truck". The fords engine is too new to go that route. Therefore i would wait a while on that. I have owned both duramax and dodge. Personally i prefer the Dmax/allison.

Never been a Dodge fan and I've always heard that (from Ford guys mostly) and it's bogus. I tow a 13000lb 5th wheel around 20 times a year and suprisingly the truck hasn't fell apart yet! That also goes for many of the other guys with Dodge trucks I know. Some have well over 300k miles.

I know this too... towing long steep grades, the Cummins will eat that Powerstroke alive.

I have an 05 Super Duty with 94,000 miles. I love the way the truck looks, drives and comfort details. BUT, I have just about set the truck on fire several times and will prolly never buy another Ford! Damn thing has been in the shop numerous times and since the 5 year warranty expired I have had to put $10,000 into the damn thing. Oil and Egr coolers, all injectors, SCT valve on HP oil pump, down pipes and two electrical issues with windows. Hell I only pull my RV about 6 times a year. Mostly I drive it to the office and use it for normal truck stuff.
No help from ford customer service. My problems are not unique at all. Supposedly the new Super Duty is "fixed", but I don't want a new note. Anyone looking for a Super Duty, think hard and don't buy any models between 03-10.

I'm in the market for the same truck. On my 2nd Ram 1500 Hemi crewcab but need the extra towing for my boat. I fish all over God's green earth. My father-in-law has the F-250 and I'm not a fan of the smaller engine either. Cummins is the best and has been for a while. Good luck with it. I'll post when I get mine w/ pics.
