The basics of the SEC/CBS contract (Read before you post)

Apparently there is a great deal of misinformation or misunderstanding of the CBS contract, and thus the reason LSU is playing at 2:30. These threads need to stop. Here are the basics, please correct if I'm wrong.
-The SEC (the conference which LSU is a member of) has TV deals with CBS and ESPN/SEC Network (ESPN Regional Television)...meaning all home SEC Games will be televised somewhere, somehow
-CBS receives first pick of the SEC “Game of the Week” each week, the 2:30 time slot
-CBS gets one football game per season on prime time and probably two doubleheaders per season
-One is the prime time weekend, the other Thanksgiving weekend
-SEC teams are prohibited from playing conference games on other networks in the same time slot as a CBS broadcast of an SEC game.
-ESPN has rights to every SEC home football game not on the network package (CBS) and all league matchups will be shown on some outlet, including at least 20 a year on ESPN or ESPN2. That includes two primetime Thursday night matchups and Saturday night games.
In conclusion, CBS has first dibs every week on SEC games. With the exception of one predetermined weekend a year (Bama/Florida this year) all CBS games (not Thanksgiving weekend) are at 2:30 CST.

i think most people here know how it works. The temper tantrums are coming from that feeling that we dont like it, and we want to change it.

Most everyone here (most) know exactly how the SEC TV contract works.
That doesn't mean we have to like it, especially in a year like this where every home conference game ends up getting picked up by CBS.

The bottom line is:
The more LSU wins, the more they will play during the day. Deal with it. I'll pladly settle for day games if it means we're No. 1 in the country. And in case you haven't noticed, we're No. 1 (in something other than the AP poll.)
Night games at Tiger Stadium are special and have been for a long time, but the success we are having right now is unprecedented.
Deal with it. :beatdeadhorse: :beatdeadhorse:
The national exposure on CBS is the best any conference in the nation offers. The ABC game is pretty good too (We've been on that one twice, BTW.) This season may go down as the most watched LSU season of all time with at least three more games on CBS.
We still have night games and still do it better than anybody else, but if Tiger Stadium is electric during the day, our team can be unbeatable at home. Isn't that the goal?

There are apparently a lot of people here and those 10-20% (guessing) should educate themselves.

I'm not asking you to like it.

I got ya.
And yeah, you are probably right...there are a lot of people that don't know how it works.
A lot of people get mad at the LSU administration when in fact LSU has nothing to do with the TV, kickoff time, etc.
Personally, I'm not angry at anyone. I understand fully how the TV contract works. Unfortunately, it is what it is.... That said, smart people could easily get together and figure out a way that benefits everyone (CBS/ESPN included) to prevent in the future LSU from playing zero SEC night games at home.
But make no mistake.... IMO it is important that LSU and its fans make it clear to everyone involved that everything being equal we would definitely prefer to play at night, and it's not a tradition that we're going to sit idly by and watch slip away as a "price of doing business" while we continue our dominance into the future.

You should probably emphasize that as a member of the SEC, LSU, its administration, and its athletic department have no say in the time of games. Zero. Never. End of story.
ETA: SEC games. LSU can determine the times of its non-conference games not picked up by another TV network.

nailed it....what really pisses me off are the morons who state that a return to our traditions would necessitate a return to mediocrity. the fact is that the $EC negociated a contract that was clearly detrimental to a major aspect of what has always made gameday and 'saturday nite in death valley' so fricking special. whoever was in power at LSU when these contracts were proposed, IMHO, dropped the ball bigtime. LSU is an elite program and it is pathetic that our conference, seemingly run by and for the people of alabama, so blatantly acts with total disreguard for our unique and historic traditions.

It just is what it is. Overall I don't see how any rational person could dislike the CBS deal considering the amount of money and exposure provided to the league and in particularly LSU. Those things clearly are beneficial to building and sustaining success. It seems like a clear net gain.
I think this year is an outlier having all 4 at home, and personally I'm not able to attend Auburn as a result. Over the last two years, 7/8 SEC games have been in the day and 6/8 have been on CBS. In 2009 all SEC games were at night. I get people are upset but I just think there will be bigger fish to fry then this.

1. Night games are LSU's tradition. We're losing that tradition.
2. CBS sucks because of Verne, who's a dolt.
3. CBS sucks because of the profusion of commercials, destroying the continuity of the game.

^^^^^THIS should be the mantra for every LSU fan ticked off for losing our traditional SEC night games. How anyone can argue against this is beyond belief.

I think it sucks but there is literally nothing than can nor should be done to change it

Im just tired of hearing that the only way LSU gets night games is if we start losing....which is bullshite.
i would gladly let CBS pass on a few of our games so ESPN could pick them up for Saturday night.

It's an argument that I've seen 100+ time in the last 24 hours and is probably the worst, most irrelevant argument against lobbying for more SEC night games.
People act like we have two choices: good team/day games OR bad team/night games.

I'm sure CBS will be willing to say "ahh frick the millions of dollars we gave these guys. We'll pass on showing the #1 team in the nation or who ever the frick we feel like which is our option..."

well thats the thing. CBS doesn't know nor care about traditions. Thats why people have decided to let them know. nothing wrong with that.
