when we go into hibernation ?
It seems as if as soon as we are leading, we become ULTRA conservative, instead of continuing to be aggressive.

I understand that there is a point in a game where there is no need to either run-up the score, or take unnecessary chances, but we seem to go into this mode way too early.

I felt we were in this dormant mode the whole 3rd quarter. I feel it kills the emotion and energy which sometimes can not be regained.

We went dormant this past game because Florida basically stopped trying to score until they threw the bomb to Debose. They weren't doing anything effective on offense so we basically played it close to the chest and weren't going to risk anything to give them a short field or a defensive TD. When they finally scored, we opened up a little and scored again.

I think the concept is to eat clock and play ball control and wear out the opposing defense. Until I began to understand this thinking, I hated it too. Now I love it!

Since when do you let the losing team dictate how you chose to play the game?

I agree. However, I think Coach Miles does what is necessary to win the game without being a douche. There are other coaches that will embarrass another team, even a team that they clearly are better than. I think it's a compensation thing. That being said, I hope LSU nails Auburn's balls to the porch and sets the shed on fire.

Yeah, but our defense can take care of a large lead while our offense could potentially screw everything up. Take, for example, the Cowboys game last week. If they ran the ball three times each possession and punted, they win the game. But they stayed aggressive and gave away three interceptions. A conservative offense with a large lead prevents stupid things from happening.

for me...it seems as if we have done this more than once.

I thought after we jumped to the big lead both our offense and defense became conservative vs Florida.

Offense barely attempted any passes. Just run after run.

Defense backed off on the blitzes.

The biggest downfall I see from this is if a team puts up a comeback, then the entire mentality of our team has shifted. It isn't the aggressive hungry team we've seen, but more of a smiling chilled team.

I think theres a quote from Muschamp that said LSU held back.

I understand the concept. My concern is that football is a big momentum oriented team effort...
if we relinquish it, we may not be able to get it back. So far so good, but I do see a possible risk there.

It's called controlling the game, winning time of possession, eating up the clock - or to steal a quote from Miles, "withholding the opportunity at victory from the other team." Call it conservative, boring, easing up or whatever else you want, but it's winning games and is a slow death for the other teams.

Think about it this way though: we did get conservative, however we still had more rushing yards than they had total, and we still hung 41 on them. It wasn't flashy but it definitely worked.

Get used to it, thats Les. Dude does just enough to win, not that it is indicative of our margin of victory, this year. He doesn't want to show his full hand, and risk injuries, that aren't necessary. He'll make you pull your hair out sometimes, esp. when he lets teams feel like they have a chance. Case in point, when they put the freshmen/Back-up DT's in the game, and Florida went down the field, gashing the middle for that drive that led to their FG. He knew the game was inhand, and that he could turn the gas on at anytime. He got the starters a blow, and the others some experience for the future....thats coaching! He does the same on Offense.

Exactly my point.
Remember against TENN after Katrina, we were up 21 I think and lost...
we did not go into that mode then, but the energy left us at the half time break..we could never regain it.
...there is a risk, without a doubt.

if I remember right, we still had our # 1 offense in, just conservatively .. how does that prevent injuries ?

Gotcha! I don't think (I hope we won't) that we'll see something like that versus Alabama or Arky, maybe not even AU or UT. If we have leads in the Bama and Arky games, I think Coach Miles understands the need to build up the numbers and will have the want for LSU to score, early and often as possible. At least I hope so. Both are explosive teams and quite capable of scoring in a heartbeat.
