A balanced opinion on the wide receivers and dropped passes

Yes, there were a lot of "dropped passes".
Yes, some of the throws were poorly placed and it is not that unusual for them to not be caught.
8 dropped passes, with about 3 or 4 justified not caught since they were off target.
That means 4 or 5 passes were dropped.
All teams have at least a couple of dropped passes in each and every game.
Therefore, the LSU recievers dropped dropped 2 or 3 more passes than they should have.
That is poor, but not THAT out of the ordinary.
Yes, RS has work to do, but also caught at least one pass that was poorly thrown and he went up to get it and hauled it in.
So quit making such a big deal about it. It is not that much out of the box and the stats for Jlee's completion percentage just does not matter since he has 8 TD's and 1 INT, and has us 5-0 and #1 in the country.

The bottom line is, our passing game is shite. Advantage JJ

Not shite, but JL really needs to get the ball down a bit, and quit underthowing every wide open receiver.
And our receivers need to step up. If they haven't been killed thus far, they are probably safe.

he seemed to be throwing the ball up into double coverage alot. did not think he had a good game.

With RS I can understand with the medical condition.
With RR I'm not sure why the dropped balls after he was relatively sure hands athough he does catch with his body more often than not.
OBJ looks like the best out of the bunch.

it may very well be the differnce in winning the SEC or not. it IS a very big deal to drop 8 passes in one game and there were not 4 uncatchable ones. if a wr gets 2 hands on the ball, he should catch it 9 out of 10 times. a hell of a lot of our passes (probably a slight majority) are THIRD DOWN passes and therefore a drop means we have to punt (or FG vs TD). so some of these dropped passes are akin to a turnover. we will not beat Bama with 8 dropped passes. and probably not florida either if their QB plays decent and they have a week to design simple plays for him. might lose to arkansas too.

Logic would dictate that with OBJ coming on so strong that the others would raise their game. But, that is obviously not the case.

Brantley isn't playing...

What is wrong with RS?

They better stop dropping passes because that's the key to beating Bama. I don't think we will be able to run up the middle every other play.

The original poster can apologize all he or she wants, but the bottom line is that there will be games in which we cannot afford these dropped passes. This was a luxury against Kentucky. We will need points against Florida, Bama and Oklahoma.

if J Lee can't throw the ball any better than JJ then I don't see what all the uproar is about with the return of JJ.

Yes, there were a lot of "dropped passes".
These guys have better hands than some of our guys exhibited Saturday.

The Jefferson family doing work this morning. Give him a couple of chances to run against Kentucky, start him against UF, right? At least his redshirt was burned yesterday so this Nonsense will end soon.

as I said in another post...
You will play in the style you practice.
Penalties, Drops, Play Patterns, whatever....
If there is not discipline and accountability in practice, the problems will show up in the game.
There are many WRs that catch almost everything, no matter who throws it..others have the "dropssies", no matter who throws it.
It is usually not as much a matter of skill, but concentration, this comes from teaching and demands in practice
without a doubt

the biggest mistake was RR pulling up on the second play of the game, that would have been a TD, but I assume he lost the ball and turned around to try to find it.
Also, a couple of time it looked like RS was working back towards the line of scrimmage on crossing routes which made making a high catch even harder.
Lee did better than the stats indicated, but did float a few.

What medical condition does RS have that make you drop passes? Is this similar to the fambled fumblitis?

Anybody see a couple of the catches Stanford's WRs made, including the 1 handed grab for a TD? The difference between JL passing for over 200 yards and a >50% completion rate yesterday.

It was simply our worst offensive performance of the season. Wr's and Lee played poorly. Our WR have got to catch the balls they should. Lee has got to place his passes better. He consistently underthrew passes into double coverage and that will not fly with the better defenses we face. I completely agree with the op's assessment on spreading the 8-9 drops. 50/50 blame. All that said it was a good game to unleash our poor play. Now that it's out the way, we can get back to the arse kickings
