I think Chavis played that scheme to set up the DBs for interceptions

We dropped 4-5 INTs. If we got half of those the game wouldnt have gotten as close as it was in the 3rd. I think he has that much faith in the DBs.

I missed the pass rush though.

Yeah. Taylor, Reid, and I think Simon and Muncie all had picks in their hands, if I'm not mistaken. Might even be missing one or two others.

I really think Chavis had a good defensive gameplan for this game. If you blitz blitz blitz, which we could have, you really are not stopping much since they were throwing the ball so quickly. He just sent 4 all night and let the secondary play the field. Sure they racked up a lot of yards but does that really matter when they only scored 21 points?

Chavis wanted this as practice for defensive backs. When can you get the opportunity defense against 65 passes in a game?

I think Chavis is trying to compensate for having no quality linebackers.

Chavis got schooled.

Chavis "bend but don't break" defensive scheme is really scary going into SEC play. Be aggressive- you have the athletes- LSU strength is it's secondary not LB covering in space so its simple, play a dime and use talents of guys like Loston vs. Hatcher on pass downs- get the LB's out of the game (they don't pressure the QB and they can't cover in space so why are they in the game Chavis)

So it's the coaches fault if the player makes a mistake on the field

No, it's the coaches fault for not having the right players on the field given down and distance, get an extra DB on the field when it's an obvious pass play vs. a LB that can't cover in space

Chavis didn't scheme Tyrann's turnovers. That kid is otherworldly! He didn't scheme Wing's exceptional punting.

Make no mistake, WV had our D on it's heels until Claiborne's KO return.

Look, I'm thrilled with the W! I think our D is super talented (except for our LB). I also think Chavis is a fine coach.

We didn't look great on D last night.

Chavis cant go down there and tackle. You throw 65 times and you will turn it over. The d lineman were keeping their lanes and letting the db's get a shot at an INT. Honestly, it was ugly but it worked. We wont see an SEC team run that offense because they know better. Even the great fun n gun offenses under Spurrier could and did run the ball. Look at us when J Lee was a fresman. If you cant run and sart slinging the rock you start turning it over which is a recipe for an L.

Yep. It would have been worse for WV if we get half of those dropped INTs. I had a hard time watching us rush just 4, but I realize that had to be the plan considering the athleticism in our D's backfield.

Plus - WVU lives and dies on the screen passes, which are deadly against a blitz. Even dropping into zone, they nailed us with quite a few screens. I think it was the right defensive game plan - we just needed to make the interceptions and tackles in space.

The game was not really close (except briefly, when they closed it to 6), but WVU stayed in the game as long as they did because they stayed with their game plan, at least through 3 quarters, and we weren't tackling very well.

is completely clueless, especially about Chavis and his defensive scheme for this game

We did exactly what we wanted to do defensively, minus some missed tackles and dropped pics. Spot on game plan by the Chief.

Have you not watched the other LSU games this year. The game plan was to not let any big plays behind the secondary for quick scores, and lock down when they get in the redzone.

this defense was VERY agressive the first 3 games. And i'm pretty sure they will continue that when facing more conventional offenses.

There was just enough of a rush to keep them honest. The game plan was great. It showed the versatility of the LSU defense. They can play smash mouth like they did against Moo U or with more finesse like they did last night. Great game plan, Chief.
