and his anti LSU attitude. Did something happen to Lou during his tenure at Notre Dame and South Carolina that would have created his obvious anti bias towards LSU? He did at both schools encountered LSU on the field. It would be easy to write it off due to his age or for comic fodder, but I don't believe it is. I belive something happened in those years that gave him a bad tatste in the mouth. Could it be his record against LSU 0 and 8?

Maybe he was interested in coaching LSU at some point and was not offered.

Lou Holtz is an entertainer. His comments & picks are designed for that exclusively.

It seems to me that Gameday forces its analysts into taking opposing positions, and Lou always ends up being forced into taking the position that makes the least sense. Maybe it's in the contract - "Lou, you have to take the underdog every week, although it makes you look like a slobbering arse, so that Herbie, Mark, and the rest of our crew look like they actually know what they're talking about.........."

Lou Holtz still thinks his 2003 South Carolina team was better then the 2003 LSU team.

I sometimes think Lou and others are kinda steered towards their picks. It would be kinda boring if everybody pick the same team. Doesnt make for good Television.

lou knows what his job is. and he's good at it. if he made credible picks every week it would not be as interesting.

you guys love talking about Lou.

I like Lou and find him entertaining. Old Granny Lou, the leprechaun. I like watching the shows.

Lee Courso is another eccentric I like. He knows why he's on air. not as a great football savant, but as an entertainer.

Works for me.... about the best explantion I have heard to explain some of his horrible, abscent minded, confused, babbling, pics and explantions he comes up with week after week... one has to assume his football IQ is much higher, considering the success he had as a coach(at one point)..... Then again, at the time he was successful, ND was still a powerhouse and garnered alot of good players, now they go elsewhere to more successful programs.... and he never did much at South Carolina, maybe its not a goofy act, he may really be goofy...

He's originally from WV so it was an easy pick for him this week.

How many years did I always pick the Saints because of my heart and not my head...

Could be, but I think in addition to obvious recruiting advantages he had at ND during his time, he was also a great coach. He had lost a step by the time he hit USCe, which coupled with inferior recruits meant he could never reach the same level. (See Spurrier, though the HBC seems to be fairing a little better)

His goofiness I think is just accentuated by his age, and the fact that ESPN makes him the punch line weekly by having him talk up the underdog.....

Actually Lou pointed out that his record in picks is much better than his counterpart....something like 8-3 versus 4-7..

Regarding his W. Va. pick over LSU, remember Holtz was born and grew up in West Va.

ABC owns ESPN. ABC charges advertisers based on viewership. Picking WVU makes the game interesting. People watch interesting games.
