Good question - I first heard the term coined for Clemson back in the very early 80s - like 81 when they won the MNC

not sure who was first with death valley, but they stole fighting tigers from us.

And Auburn (the copy cats) uses the old school tiger with the salior hat . It was designed by a student that worked in Co-op bookstore in the 30's or 40's..

It doesn't matter. When Dabo Sweeny has to say what state "DeathValley" is in, you know it's a wannabe. When I heard him say "South Carolina" I knew we had the real Deathvalley.

LSU's stadium holds over 10000 more people and is WAY louder.

Clemson was first.

Back in the dark ages LSU fans started calling Tiger Stadium "Deaf Valley" as a way to mock Clemson and point out the loudness of Tiger Stadium. Eventually "Deaf" got lost in translation and simply became "Death Valley".

Not only did they have it first, but we copied them. We were deaf valley but LSU fans liked Clemson's stadium name better and ran with it.
