For 3 touches all year? Stampley and Copeland have the FB position locked up, and the RB position is locked with Ware, Ford, and Blue. We have a history of using big bruising backs and Hilliard could definitely be that guy when Ware moves on.

Hilliard has been on the field for way more than just 3 "touches". He's been the blocking FB quite a few times, he's playing a bigger role at FB other than simply carrying the football.

And we needed him to do that this year why? And please elaborate on this "bigger role"...

It's only been 3 games. Maybe he'll have a bigger role in the offense as the season progresses.

Les Miles likes his feature RBs to play FB, get accustomed to the pounding early on. He'll be the feature back in 2 years

Hilliard will be needed this year just like everyone else in the backfield. I expect LSU to throw him some swing passes out the backfield and get him in open space. This kid is a hoss and needs to see action this year. Besides, we bring RBs in every year so why not see how he handles the position this year.

Because when we play bama we can sneak him out of the backfield for the game winning touchdown pass.

Great recruiting tool to let freshman play. May have been something Les promised him and he is holding to it

Les probably got scared that Hilliard would transfer if he got no PT.

Hilliard laughs at JC's lack of yardage.

Honestly, i dont care about this anymore. Red shirts used to a lot more important when everybody had to wait to play. Now, you play when you get here so it doesnt matter much. Will have someone else in 4 years so who cares

Part of it is, Hilliard will contribute this year, possibly a large contribution if the injury bug hits.

Also, by redshirting a player you assume he'll want to stay for that 5th year, when most elite RB's want to go ahead and take it to the NFL after 3 or 4.

Copeland's carry surprised the shite out of me. I think Hilliard will get some more touches going forward, somewhat how Ware was used as a fullback. I think he will have some significant catches at some point

It surprised me too. And I would love to see a formation dubbed the "Ground Shaker" with Copeland, Stampley, and Hilliard in the Maryland I behind Lee.
