.... and he isn't even dead yet.

The SEC is playing third fiddle (at best) in the whole conference alignment thing and everyone is thwarting our potential targets. ACC upping the exit ante, etc. Remember when the SEC was at the cutting edge in this game?

I hope the powers that be are working deep underground here. I don't want this conference to:

1.) Become an afterthought

2.) Water down its product to keep up with the Jonses.

The SEC was never reactionary to these types of things when Kramer was in charge.

Am I the only one who thinks you could combine every other conference and they still wouldn't have the talent the SEC has? The rest of the country has been trying to catch up to the SEC for years what makes you think that because they rearrange that they will be any better off? :roll eyes:

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If there was a chance to make the SEC better and we missed it by not being the visionary in this process, that sucks.

Chill out man. Honestly, the fact that Slive and the SEC have been so quite during this whole thing, makes me think even more that when it's all said and done, we'll end up shocking everyone.

I do think we'll have to expand, but don't think we go over 14. At this point, it seems that once the Big 12 implodes, it'll more than likely be Mizzou. Unless we can somehow convince FSU to bolt for the steep $20 million price tag.

Either way man, the SEC is the premier product in college football. And the fertile talent grounds still lay in FL, AL, LA, TX, and GA. So unless they can figure out how to relocate all the HS kids who grow up wanting to play for an SEC team, it won't change much.

In a way I agree. The SEC got A&M, but seems to be waiting for the rest of the conferences to shake out. Maybe some things are happening that we don't know about but the SEC should be selective. The appearance is the SEC is being reactive, not proactive. Will see what happens.

I'm not really nervous about it, just making an observation.

Not sure that they would come even if the SEC paid the fees for them. But I would love to have them dig into the UF, Alabama, and Auburn recruiting scene.

Your conference has a problem. It's in the deep south...200 years of existence and most schools can't just hop in and become SEC - deep south culture schools. Your choices are limited...you already have the majority of confederate states...not much left to choose from below the Mason-Dixon line except for West Virginia.

Much much less than you believe. Are you still stuck in the 1860's?

No one.

I equate this whole exercise to a group of billionaires sitting around discussing taxes....it in no way effects us.

you do know uscjr. and ark weren't kramer's top choices 20 years ago, right?

sometimes you've gotta adapt to a situation and move on. that's what slives doing and kramer knows that.

This is going from memory, but 20 years ago, the primary thing that got both schools in the conference was their fanbase's ability to travel.

The rules are different now. It looks like we're going to go for TV dollars.

A&M makes sense on both fronts, but what makes the SEC special is the collective lunacy of the fanbases. We are all off our rocker, so A&M fits in. Maybe no one else "fits."

Your "fans" can't even figure out what Tiger Bait means and they let small children roam around stadiums they have never been too

I do agree that A&M is a natural fit and gets the SEC into the Dallas and Houston markets. And yes, adding WVA or Mizzou aren't nearly as appeasing, but going to 14 seems inevitable.

My guess is Slive has a list of who would be good fits from a monetary/character/location perspective, which may include schools no one is even thinking about right now.

My personal preference would be to add FSU as 14, call it a day. But that seems unlikely, so, we'll just have to see.
