If Oregon was in the SEC, they'd be crushed

I think this argument is absolutely ridiculous.
In this hypothetical situation/alternate universe, if Oregon was in the south they would be in the heartland of football and have recruiting pipelines in the richest, star-laden states. We would have an SEC defense and an SEC o-line that would hold its own in the trenches and our offense wouldn't get stifled like this. It's much harder to recruit those athletes all the way from the Pacific Northwest because kids like to stay close to home.
I want to make it clear that in no shape or form am I whining about recruiting. You win bcs bowls, you will bring in good recruits no matter where you are. I'm just saying that if you are going to make the "Oregon would never do well in the SEC" argument, you also have to consider that our recruiting classes would also be ranked much higher, and that we'd field a comparative level of athletic talent.
more thoughts - this year's team is vastly weaker than last year at the moment. Lost a lot of talent on the d-line and at linebacker, and lost vets on the o-line. Matthews (yee starting for the Eagles), Bair, Clark, Rowe, Paysinger, Talmadge Jackson, (and Cliff Harris) were all gone from last year's defense. I hope the young guys can gel quickly.
Also, said this last night but hope you guys run the table in the SEC. It wouldn't make us look as bad
Hope Lee has a great year for you guys too, we Americans always love a heartwarming comeback story, and the kid seems to be resilient.

I think they'd be 3rd or 4th best team in the SEC. Battling it out with Carolina for that number 3 spot.
Defintely have many playmakers on the offensive side of the ball; Barner, James, De Thomas, Huff, and I like Tuinei's game too

Oh one more thing - we'll be back. Lot of work to do first. Gotta make it to the Rose Bowl and win it, get that big game monkey off our back, go harder for recruits...definitely some work to put in before we take that next step and get on the level of the "elites". But we're gonna be there soon enough.

Exactly why Oregon would get crushed in the SEC.
But California is loaded with SEC caliber athletes. It seems like USC didn't have trouble competing in the Carroll era

i agree wholeheartedly. i think you are responding to a dumb and immature post. yall have a damn good team and i was extremely impressed with your defense. your db's blew me away with how good they were. my opinion is that if oregon were in the sec y'all would challege for the title annually.

You guys will have a good year, didn't feel safe until our last TD. I didn't think your O-line was gonna be able to handle our D, though you did well in the first half. Your QB had a good first half made some nice throws. We would have been sacking most QB's, but Thomas is quick. We're more physical, as I thought we would be. And just as fast as you.... good luck the rest of the way.

Oregon has the talent, they have the speed, and they have the recruiting.
It's a few things that would affect you. First, with the tempo offense and the offensive gameplan, you'd be down to 2nd/3rd string at some positions by the end of the season because after getting beat down by LSU, you then get to play Miss State (who has a stout team this year), and then Auburn, and then Florida, and then Bama. And not as bowl games, as regular season games back to back, week in/week out.
That's what we mean when we say that. Oh, and Thomas needs to learn how to throw downfield and hit receivers, and ditch the side to side shite the entire game. If Thomas could pass worth a shite other than to a wide open receiver in the flat, Oregon's offense would be unstoppable until you start losing players in injury from the point I made above with that high risk/high reward aggressive type offense.

I was just pointing out how silly that argument was...if Nike U was located in the south, Nike U would be a recruiting power in the south as well.

I love these post game threads. Pre game, no Duck fan would ever say this. EVER. y'all had athletes all over the field. Speed speed speed!!!!! No way our young and unproven DL with one guy coming off an ACL tear is better than ours!

Obviously when this hypothetical is brought up, it simply means taking the team/program as it currently exists and having them play an SEC schedule. You're bringing up a bunch of other variables that don't factor into the discussion most people are having and trying to start a totally different discussion. In your scenario, you wouldn't be in bed with Nike and your football program might resemble Kentucky or Vanderbilt instead of LSU, Bama, or Florida.

The point of that conversation is comparing schedule strengths, not discussing unimaginable situations like moving a university to a different region.

The problem with Oregon in the SEC is, you play Tennessee, then you play Florida, then play a weak Ole Miss team and after getting up and beat up for two weeks play a team that decides to be fired up that day and play their asses off to beat you. Then you come back next week and play Alabama. YOu have the horses to play one game and beat most SEC teams but not week in and week out.
