Thoughts on Big 12 officiating last night?

I thought they did a good job for first game, called it tighter than SEC officials for sure and missed a few calls that were fixed by reply. I hated the holding penalty on J. Lee's big pass which was wrong but they were a little "ticky tack" both ways. (Two leg whips in one game?) But really didn't seem much if any better than typical SEC crew we have all grown to hate despite having a much better and tougher program.

What say you all? Were they any better than our guys?

What did you think about that personal foul on loston? I need to rematch that call without a full day of drinking. I thought it was bullshite last night but that's why I am asking here. Was it legit?

There were a few bull shite calls but they did better than the sec would have done. The holding was called on the wrong person but there WAS holding on that play.

I thought overall they were above average.

They called a great game. Even one's I disagreed with, now that I've reviewed them, they were right.

I thought they did pretty well. There were mistakes but none more than you would expect from an average crew. They handled all the replay situations competently and efficiently, which is always important.

It was sort of hard to tell becase ABC did a poor job of replaying the penalties, but I did think that the Loston penalty was a bit picky and the holding call on the long pass completion, if it was on Lonergan, then that was a BS call.

I thought they were on the take after calling 3 penalties against Oregon on the first possession including the kickoff return.

i wish we couldve gotten video evidence of some of the penatlies, specifically the leg whips and kick return holdings on both teams

all in all, im sure LSU folks thought it was fine. im sure oregon fans think they got jobbed

I thought the game was called decently. I won't go into some of the calls because they have been discussed previously here. One no call I wondered about was on Oregon's first td drive. DeAnthony Thomas had a catch on third down to convert an he immediately jumped up and threw the ball straight up into the air. I thought that was supposed to be an automatic unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. My comparison would be the game several years ago where Washington lost to BYU. Locker scored a td and threw the ball. The XP was moved back 15 yards and then was blocked.

It was easy to tell that he didn't make contact in slow-mo, but you can't expect an official to really know that live.

Agreed, I would like more replay. ABC didn't do worth a shite in that department. I thought it was good. As others have mentioned, it wasn't lonergan...but there was holding. I'd be pissed if there wasn't a hold, but just messing up the player is ok.

I thought it was a well officated game. ABC did a piss poor job of video replays, but that's nothing new.

I totally agree. It felt as if they were actually non-partial toward either team, and right or wrong in every call, I had a sense of overall fairness - which, given that we usually are at the mercy of SEC officiating, was really refreshing.

They made a couple of bad calls and missed some things, but I would still rather have this crew over SEC officials any day.
