I thought Minter was gonna start at mike. What has been the talk of Hatcher in the practices?

I've heard nothing but good things. Looks like Minter is the back up on the depth chart.

hatcher may be better suited specifically for O's offense. that's the word. another DB in without changing the formation

they will both play and minter should get the start against balanced and run teams

That Hatcher has been better than Minter.

Looks like Hatcher is getting the nod. Hope he performs well if not Minter will do well off the bench.

Am I the only one that doesn't like the idea of having a bunch of light in the arse DBs playing LB, especially Mike LB

Hatcher's gonna start. Most of the reasons have been mentioned -

Against the Ducks O we're gonna need as much speed as we can get on the field.

Minter will definately see plenty of time. The pace and tempo the Ducks play - we'll have to play all 22 guys on D to keep them fresh.

Unless, of course, we're making them punt on 3rd down and our O has long possessions.

Hatcher looks bigger than Minter, so we aren't sacrificing much size. Maybe 12 pounds, but Hatcher is 2'' taller than Minter.

My concern is how well Hatcher understands the defense and reading offensive schemes. We're missing our general on D with Sheppard gone.

Against OR I can see it due to there speed, however against a north/south running team, say bama I think it could be a liability.

I like the speed but we need to start recruting heavier LB's.... True mlb's that run a 4.4 40...Look at bama's lb's all 6'2 235 or bigger. look at upshaw 262. there linebackers are sick big and fast. Love chavis but hes been recruiting small DL and backers for a couple yrs now. our ends are light to.

Diff with you on that, have been saying it for years. I would love to see some big nasty head busters in our LB core.

I agree on the big nasty MLB, too.

Every defense needs a man that's there to stop the 3rd and 1 power play.

Our ends are like bamas backers. Just diff formation. We use diff guys for diff situations. Besides brockers freak go over 300 edwards and chancey are bigger des. Nevis and pep went about 280. We are actually bigger on the line this year.

shut the frick up. How many MLB's you know running 4.40 40's? Bama runs a fricking 3-4. We run a 4-2-5/4-3 hybrid. We target speed. They target power. Both are extremely effective when executed right, evidenced by both being top 15 defenses.

Brocker being right at 300 and 6,6 isnt all that big and Logan and Downs are both around 280

Upshaw is way too hyped up and overrated IMO. His production last year wasn't that great. It's actually messed up that he's considered the best LB in the SEC after the amazing season Danny Trevathan from UK had, BTW Trevathan is about the exact same size as Baker. Yeah Saban recruits huge LB's, but he runs a base 3-4, and bigger LB's are needed. I'll take a good mixture of size and speed over just size any day. Baker is also a better overall Linebacker than Upshaw. However if you want good size than Minter is the answer. He weighs 240 and is one of the strongest people on the team. They could also try to move Maclin back there for next year. Huge linebackers are only good against the run and short passes. In other situations they get burnt.

Yeah but he's extremely quick for that size. Having 280+ DL isn't a bad thing. Drake weighed like 285 at best and Pep only weighed 280 last year. Heck, Anthony Hargrove only weighed like 275 when he played during the Saints super bowl season.
