Did Oregon have a starting linebacker last spring get in trouble and get suspended for our game? Couldnt remember.

Yes, a MIKE. He might still play. It's still up in the air. ILB is a concern but OLB is very good.

That is the 3 man rotation at lb.

However, Bolo and Kaddu both have played a lot at WIL and both are good size. I think we'll see a five man rotation of Kaddu, Clay, Bolo, Stuckey, Malone in order of number of snaps. If Alonso plays, that will be one fricking awesome six man rotation.

You won't be able to sub once we go into our SLUR offense. Named in honor of all of the drunk coonasses in the stands.

I hear Alonso has good size but is he that good? Also, what makes those 6 "awesome"...looking at their stats, speed, and general size I'm not to concerned. So I guess I'm looking as to why I should be?

Whenever a team gets really good their fans expect the backups to be better than departed starters (see us with C. Taylor, H. Coleman, L. Levingston, etc.). Seems like Oregon fans are following this line of thinking with their defense. They talk about their front seven like it's a given that they're going to be better than they were last year despite returning very few experienced players. We'll see I guess.

Kaddu and Lokombo played a ton last year. Clay was the 3rd ILB last year after Payinger and Matthews. He is an athletic upgrade and played extensibly as a true frosh in '09: the only true frosh to ever play in quite some time at LB (very hard scheme). Stuckey is a 4 star 5th year senior that has a big set of guns on him and is very comfortable in the system. Malone is part of new generation of players we are getting.

Alonso is just an enforcer and played a ton in our run to the rose bowl. Big, physical, and very athletic.

As far as undersized, see Hatche and look no further.

I don't know what speed metric you are using but Lokombo got D1 looks at WR and Clay/Kaddu are very fast. Not sure why you think that unless it's a tired overused meme...

I said their speed lacks because I was looking on y'alls official site for weights and scouting, and it said one of the backers (can't remember right now) was the fastest LB at an electronic 4.84. I'm not near a computer but I can link it later if you like.

I know but LMJ runs a 4.59 according to the site. Oregon's winter conditioning times are slow. Chung ran a 4.54 at the NFL combine but had a high 4.7's in winter conditioning. Maehl ran a 4.62 at combine but ran a 4.79 in winter conditioning. Those times are only good relative to each other.

This topic was discussed in a blog by Moseley, register guard beat writer, a poster said it had something to do with the thumb device they use. Anyway, our whole team looks slow on goducks.

Mathis ran a 4.74 in winter conditing and if you look at his profile he has a high school combine time of like 4.33 and an offer to Florida and Miami as a db. His strength was elite speed. If our line backers were .1 slower, that linebacker that ran that 4.8 is actually very fast.

Mathis is a kid that ran a 10.4 hundred meter in high school - Florida speed.

You can take those stats for what they are....just stats. Tacoi Sumler was "the fastest recruit in the country", yet I have heard that everyone one the team says DAT is the fastest on the field right now. Tacoi ran in the high to mid 4.2's. Don't know how that translates to football speed on the field.

Gotcha. I was pretty curious because I keep hearing about the defensive speed and if your fastest backer was a 4.8 then I wasn't going to be overly concerned. I still think it's weird they put that as "accomplishments"...so that's just where I was coming from.

Yeah, football speed is just a different metric. TRex runs a 4.62, but will outrun everybody on the field...everybody.

I always wondered why they posted it that way and I don't understand why 40 times for line backers or lineman are even relivant. When is the last time you have seen a lineman run that far lol. I look more at their 10 and 20 yds and their L-runs.

Very true, 40's for LB's aren't that important. Lateral speed and Shuttles are better metrics IMO.

LMJ, Barner, De'Anthony Thomas vs. Mathieu should be interesting. I just watched Mathieu's highlights.

Both Matthews and Payinger will are in NFL camps and both are making the roster and look to be in the rotation. Paysinger ran a 4.73 proday 40, which I don't think is elite.

However, the NFL gets the best of the best, so they can kinda be picky.
