On now.
Realistically, what high school girl on a first date with a guy changes into her bathrobe at the end of the date?! I don't know what happens now, mind you (I'm old), but in the 80s I don't see it happening. Even if she was wanting some...

The kind of girl who goes all the way in a dugout with a stereo salesman and helps strange dudes change into her brothers swim trunks.

Point taken. I knew a lot of sluts, but none quite so overt. Or maybe they were!

She was more than a little slutty. Mmmm...slutty JJL.

Well it was 1982, so I totally buy her behavior coming out of the 70's. Late 80's to early 90's was big sweaters and prude city.

Nobody really got concerned about AIDS until the mid-to-late eighties. Before that things were a LOT looser.

Question: Is this a comedy or a drama?
I saw this for the first time about 2 years ago and saw it as a teen drama more than a comedy.

I just see it as a High School movie. It's funny in parts and it has some funny relatable characters. There are other movies that tried to pull this off like Can't Hardly Wait but didn't do as well and then there are others that nailed it like Dazed and Confused.

Comedy-Drama; it's own genre. The most famous example, The Graduate.
But mostly a comedy. Captures that early 80's vibe, Cameron Crowe hit the 80's vibe perfectly. We used to quote this movie all the time.
So many memorable characters...Spicoli:
"This is US history, I see the globe right there."
Damone:
"When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV."
And or course Phoebe in the greatest movie scene of all time coming out of the pool.
And Brad's famous line:
"Doesn't anybody knock anymore?"
It can't be copied. Classic.

This is true. I was considering it from the late 80s POV.

How many times do you think Kevin Kline has watched the pool scene? Congrats to him for trading up and working out a long term deal.
Lucky SOB.

Phoebe is one on my list. I hate Kevin Klein. He is a decent actor with the hottest wife.
