Been seeing lots of chatter about the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale running through Central Louisiana and the potential affect on the State's economy, especially with the advent of the relatively new Horizontal Fracking technology. Even without being proved out with test wells, some are already drawing parallels to the recent Haynesville bonanza and the Bakken Oil Shale in North Dakota. A study done by the LSU Basin Research Institute notes the potential for a 7 Billion (with a "B") barrel reserve in the TMS.

Anything to this or is this just hype from Jed Clampett wanna bees?

Wasn't TMS discovered years ago?

I believe there is an office in Clinton, LA with a TMS sign

It was - but it's been a love/hate (risk/reward) relationship with Oil Companies. I think this will be the first dance since the new fracking technology came to the fore-front - and fresh on the heels of the Haynesville hoopla.

How far south does it extend? Does it go into East Baton Rouge Parish?

There's a map on Page 5 of this PDF: LINK

Not sure how defined/exact the Boundary Lines are. I think as new wells come on line, the map boundaries could change....

It's projected to have more oil than Bakken if I'm not mistaken. I like the play and would love for CenLa to see some action

Got some family that lives in south MS, about 10 15 miles from the LA/MS state line. They are getting ready to start some drilling on land we got down there.

Anyone in the Pike County area hit anything?

Newer Plays
Devon Energy has been leasing acreage in a number of emerging shale and unconventional resource plays over the last few years and has more than one million acres. These resource plays include the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale, Niobrara Shale, Mississippi Lime, and the Utica Shale in Ohio and Michigan. Devon Energy plans to start testing some of these areas and will drill at least 30 exploratory wells to these formations in 2011. LINK

I know some people in E. Feliciana are getting leases. My grandmother has 12 acres and they gave here 250 an acre for a 3 year lease.

What are your sources? Have you been approached directly or is it a he-said she-said? If true, then lease payments are on the up-tick.

Sources are rock solid... I know the individual personally...

My property is not far at all from this lease. I-49 is where this is going down. Now, some of the early birds in this particular area received $150 months ago in this area so go figure. Also, only a small piece of the total acreage (which is significant) was leased out. IMO this could have been an isolated situation but I think things are about to start rolling in a major way. It's a speculation game and some of these companies are starting to invest fairly heavy early in the game it appears.
