i am looking to buy a new bow for my 8yo. he has been shooting rinky dink kids bows since he was five. i am now looking for a bow he can grow with and eventually use to hunt.

i am leaning towards getting him the fred bear apprentice bow. has several features i like including the cam system and the draw weight range.

does anyone have experience with this bow or other youth bows i should look at?

here is the bear bow LINK

My neighbor got one for his 7-8ish yo son. He seems to like it, I don't see them shooting it much though.

I would get him a bridge bow... Something to get him by until he's closer to 14ish where he can get the real deal little bit more expensive. He's still young, get him something that you aren't going to be stressing out over him messing it up.

last year when he was seven he shot one at bowies and loved it. was all he talked about for months. when santa didnt bring him one it looked liked he was kicked in the nuts.

my oldest shoots a lot so i think he will follow his big brother. at least i hope he will.

i have never had any dealings with bear bows. oldest has my old bowtech and i love them. i looked at the diamond razor youth bow but the draw weight is more limited. the bow is also more expensive.

What model do you have? My bro just bought a Charge and I really like it.

End

And MsandLa, that sound like my neighbors kids, his older son is 14 or 15 and shoots a whole lot. He had a nice youth model bow and just got a Fred bear charge and he's been shooting it every day, sometimes twice a day, since he got it

Browning used to make a kid's bow not sure if they still do. Mine had a max draw weight of 30 lbs.

i lucked out on the new bow for oldest. he has same draw length as me. i just donated my bow to him and you would have thought i bought him a brand new one. i use it when i need it but would rather have him stick a deer than me.

Quick funny story, I bought my bow from my younger brother when he got his Charge. He and my dad have a draw length about the same, and my dad shot it a few times when my brother had it. I got it and had to lengthen the draw length a couple inches, my dad came out Monday when I was shooting and wanted to take a couple of shots. The draw is too long now, and he stung the everliving shite out of his arm twice. After the second one he just said "frick this I'm going back inside"

that shite hurts.

i had a clueless buddy, who has more money than sense, buy him a new bow. he brought it to camp to shoot for first time. he wasnt fitted for the bow and drew it back. the string went behind his right ear!! thank goodness i was able to stop him from releasing it. could have been ugly and funny at same time

I think it is Parker that has a youth bow & you can send the limbs back for a upgrade as the kids get older.

i am looking at the parker bucksot now. it looks like they have two different bows, one is 15-29lbs the other is 30-45lbs. i might not be looking in right spot though.

this bear goes from 15-27in draw length and draw weights are 20-50lbs.

just saw a PSE also. they are proud of their youth bows

My boy shoots a mathews genesis....very good bow and very easy to make adjustments on. All you have to do is adjust the poundage the draw length is set by however far the kid can pull the bow back...so the bow grows with him or her..
