Springfields are nice too.
Since its not the gun i shoot often i got a nice looking one. Less wear than my other guns.

Price range???

1911's are pretty hard to beat. The springfield XDm is a nice gun too if plastic guns are your thing.

800 bucks can get you nice 1911, but you will have to look.

800 will get you a Glock holster and Ammo

Ruger now makes a 1911 that has been getting nothing but great reviews, but it'll be hard to find one probably.

Tons of good 1911's in that price range. Colt, springfield, etc.

The XDm and glocks are also in that price range.

Go put your hands on the ones with a price tag you can tolerate and then decide which one you like. They all feel a little different and what one man likes another man will hate.

Go look at the Sprinfield line of .45s. I have three 1911s and two of them are Springfields.

Wait for a gun show...They had some Springfield's with the wooden handle(not sure the model) .45's for freaking cheap maybe $600 range ...it was too long ago. I should have bought one.

Best shooting .45 out the box for me was a Browning. Wish I still had it. I've had 3 Colts, still have 2, like them also.

How has no one mentioned the fn 45? About the same price as the glock, but I think holds 1 or 2 more rounds. Fn has the best double stack .45 on the market

Good holy christ.

With your price range you need to go look at 1911's. They are works of art and you will have an heirloom pistol. Like downshift said, the Ruger is getting great reviews but may be hard to find. It's right there is your price range and think is a lot of bang for the buck.

Plenty of GREAT .45s out there and it's really a matter of what you're looking for. I think if you shoot a 1911 you will never want another, but they do have their drawbacks where the plastic guns excel.
