I noticed this on the astros message board. Do not have the actual link but I have what they are talking about. Good or bad trade? LINK

If Ed Wade is making it, its a bad trade for Houston.

Cosart is not going to be a MLB Ace and the PHillies know it. I"m even skeptical about DOM Brown being legit at this point. I'm getting the Lastings Millege vibe on him.
If I'm Jim Crane I'm not allowing Ed Wade to do a damn thing.

The rumor came from a ESPN insider report. Just a reporter saying what trades should be made.
Philadelphia Phillies trade Jarred Cosart to the Houston Astros for Hunter Pence
Pence could also make sense for the Giants (and Cuddyer for the Phils), but Astros GM Ed Wade served as Phillies GM from 1998 to 2005 and traded them Roy Oswalt last July, so Houston and Philly are natural trading partners.
The Phillies could really use a right-handed bat, particularly in the outfield, to balance out their left-leaning lineup. Pence won't be a free agent for another year and a half, so he wouldn't be a half-season rental. Therefore, the Phils would need to give up their top pitching prospect in order to get him. The Astros are the worst team in baseball and years away from competing. They've already shown a willingness to deal their "name" players, when they moved Oswalt and Lance Berkman at last year's deadline. Pence is good, but not good enough to build the franchise around, and should be moved for a younger, cheaper player.

Yea hence the rumor. I should of said "Hunter Pence to Phillies according to a reporter saying what trades should be made" that would be a long subject line.

I can't say how good or bad Cosart is in terms of a major league prospect but I can give you a scouting report on him. He has a mid 90's fastball that he can crank up to high 90's at times. Between 2"- 5" of movement on his 4 seam fastball. Nice hammer curve and decent changeup, but both those offerings are far behind his fastball. He needs to smooth out his delivery. He's a potential top of the rotation starter if he can improve on his secondary offerings and smooth the delivery out. The big problem with him now is he can dominate the lower levels of minor league baseball with that fastball. Your not going to see his potential till he moves up to AA and AAA to see how his stuff plays up there.

espn insider aswell
The talk from the bottom up is Houston would have to take a contract so the Phillies wouldnt be above the Luxary tax. Joe Blanton is the name of the player that makes most since. 10 million this year and next then FA. Could be traded next year. BUt the problom is if they take JOe Blanton does the price of HUnter Pence Go up?
How about Joe Blanton 10 million for 2 more years. Jarrod Cossart Jonathan Singleton Sebastain Velle and Matt Rizzotti to the Astros for Hunter Pence and Jiovanni Mier?

I wasn't being a dick with my previous post, I was just stating that this fits as a rumor.

That was from a ESPN reporter Matt Meyers just doing a what if scenario. It's not a true rumor. The phillies are believed to be under payroll constraints because they are right up against the luxury tax. The only way I see Amaro making this deal is because he's going to need a OF to replace Ibanez next year anyway.

I know. I"m laughing at the names being rumored by this "insider"

Pence's has the highest BABPIP in MLB and its almost 90 points off his career avg. The astros need to fire away and soon.
