Just bought a new boat with an '01 50 Merc ELPTO on the back of it. Motor barely has 50 hours on it.

What's the average tune-up price to take it somewhere? and the lower unit oil needs changing.

for a 10yr old motor you will also need to change your impeller.

And depending on the last time it was run and the type of gas that is in it, you may need some carb work done as well...

If you take it to a shop you are looking at 70-100 dollars and hour for labor. Plus parts..

225-300.00 is about what it would cost you in my area.

and you will need new rubber hoses and a bulb because of the ethanol and sitting up. Carbs may need looking at as well and like he said,a new impeller for certain.

Were do you live? Close to Baton Rouge? If so, I can point you to someone that is very good with Mercs.

I ran it the other day. idled a little rough and killed a few times in neutral but one it go going it never sputtered. It did bog down a few times when getting out of neutral but that's just due to the bit it sat up. The linkages probably need to be set right plus the injectors cleaned out. Just hoping I don't get stuck with a huge bill.

as noted many time here before, run non-ethanol in it and couldn't hurt to de carb and clean it out with some serious quickleen treatment in heavy concentration. I had to do that on my 01 115 when I got it in 2010 that didn't have but about 50 hrs on her.
