Dragon Age Origins opinions?

I just got lot of free time on my hands and my brother in law turned my interests to this game after playing it for several hours. So, today I got the Ultimate Edition... anyhow, whats the best way to go throught the game (race/gender/class) and how long is the game play? Also, general impressions of the game?

I have it and have tried to play through it twice, for some reason I never was able to completely stick with it though. I think the world and story are incredible, but the gameplay wasn't quite fun enough for me; it felt almost like an MMORPG but not quite up to its quality (you have to worry about properly setting up tanks and party members battle orders and all that shite). I also felt the difficulty varied way too much; some fights I'd just dance through whereas other enemies crushed me in seconds. I could just suck at the game though.
Loved the opportunity to make choices throughout the game; I'd recommend saving often and making multiple saves so you can change decisions you might get suckered into and regret. I only made mage and warrior characters; I think the mage lines are the most interesting and the characters are always more versatile.

It was a very good game, with an excellent story, but just like Thundercles I tried to play through it the second time and just couldn't do it. Like he said though, make sure to have multiple saves so you can see all kinds of different things in the game. (I played as a human warrior first, and was trying to play as an elf assassin the second time)

I definitely recommend it.
I'm in the middle of my second play-through. First time as a Dwarven Warrior, second as an Elf Mage. It can be slightly bothersome to set up the orders for your teammates, but once you have it, you only need to update them occaisionally.
The storyline is quite good, as well.
Combat can be easy or really difficult but usually the toughest parts are due to a relatively simple mistake like the wrong opening spell or target.
The game takes about.... 40 hours total if memory serves, this includes Awakening but no DLC's.
Enjoy, and keep us posted

I thought all the games were horrible.
