I was talking with someone today and was asked this... and I did not know.
I have looked online and in past topics... no help... so I turn to TD for help with why we do mark yards that end with 5 as well as those that end with 0.

Just tradition, like the "H" style goal posts and the white jerseys. We're LSU. We do things our way.

Seriously? Count your fingers. They are the basis for our numbers system.

For those who are ignorant, LSU is the only school to mark the 5,15,25,35 and 45 on both sides of the field.

I wasn't aware of any team that marks them in green. Not doubting you, just don't remember seeing it. Why would it help the officials? Seems like they could look at the 30 and realize the next mark was the 35. Again, you're probably right, I just don't remember seeing it.

This. I'm sure if he was home and had time to leisurerly pose and type his question, it would have sounded less awkward. But sometimes, our bigger fingers get in the way of the keys and/or we have microseconds to type in our desired query
Which could have been: "Why do Tiger Stadium groundskeepers paint the playing field yardline numbers every five yards instead of every ten yards like all other stadium fields?"
