Joe's Crab Shack

As for a real answer. I'm not sure about BR. I saw signs for live crabs somewhere in Lafayette or New Iberia recently.

crabs are going to be hard to come by this year. my wife asks every seafood place she goes to the same question and none have been encouraging.

Typically late June around BR. Tony's does them very well for pickup. Normally when the crawfish play out is when I move to crabs until Fall oysters.

Hymels in Convent or before it on River Road has great boiled crabs for a restaurant. I normally make the trek there several times during summer. Talking to Pizzolato and Hymel they both seem to think the season will be fine. I don't know why anyone would think they would be hard to get. It's just early.

I would assume lake crabs might be killed off from the river water.

You're probably better off boiling them yourself up there.

I asked all of the places in Ascension for live crabs yesterday, but no luck. I think Black Lake Club has them on Saturday's now.

Saltwater is more dense than freshwater - the freshwater will sit on top. Saltwater sits near the bottom where the crabs spend most of their time. Plus they are generally more tolerant to changes in salinity. The Crabs will be fine.

Wayne Stablier had crabs but don't get them there-my parents got hospital necessary food poisoning from them Saturday night.

FWIW the people at Tony's told my wife(they know her on sight) said that the crabs were driven out to deeper water where the traps don't stay in place, or something like that, and not to expect a lot of crabs this year.
