In the 27-page manual that is the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship Handbook, there are -- let's see --four paragraphs devoted to the process of determining the tournament's 34 at-large bids.

The less said the better, seems to be the operative philosophy here.

This is college baseball's fine print. It can anoint; it can condemn.

It's not rocket science. In fact, as chairman Tim Weiser of the NCAA baseball committee explained Thursday, there sometimes isn't very much science used at all.

"Each team is different," said Weiser, who will gather his committee in Indianapolis this weekend to determine the 64-team field. "It's not one-size-fits-all.

"The truth is, the process we use is much more of an art than a science."

Goes a long way toward explaining how the idiots on the selection committee come up with the kind of crap that we saw today.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, I'm calling major BULLS***

quote:

But as Weiser explained, the committee has a plethora of Catch-22s --my literary reference, not his --to consider.

RPI, the Ratings Percentage Index, but with baseball footnotes.

Record against top 25 teams, top 50 teams and top 100.

Trending -- how a team has performed in its most recent 15 games.

This is what the lying mouthpiece for the NCAA stated a couple of days ago, yet nont of those things factored in for LSU. Not a single one, because LSU would have been a #2 seed if these things were the factors that were used.

quote:

“It kind of confirmed for a number of us that although the RPI is not perfect, until somebody comes up with a better formula, that’s the one that seems to be serving our process best.”

I guess he meant, "unless you are LSU, then RPI is useless."

They should come out before the season and have a written set of guidelines so they can't come out with this BS after the fact. Hell for the at large teams and seeding purposes set up a BCS style formula and let the computers do it. That way everyone is seemingly playing on a level playing field.

Seriously, you could use an Excel spreadsheet and get better results! Take out the automatic qualifiers, filter our all of the remaining teams with non-winning records then and a formula with values for Record, RPI, etc. and sort. It still isn't "rocket science".

As for the "it's more of an art", he must be a fan of Dadaism, or perhaps finger painting. Putting in St. John's was certainly a piece of work.

This is what is crazy about the people saying our lack of ooc road games was what kept us out. As long as they can make up the rules on the fly there will be back room deals at the NCAA.

Bro, I think you know as well as I do that has more to do w/ the NCAA's desire to "share the wealth". Gotta make sure those northeastern teams who don't play at home until April, and then have ZERO fanbase when they do, get representation, you know.

Seriously, how many people in New York do you think really give two shits whether St. John's was invited or not? How well do you think they're gonna travel?

Such a joke.

It must be art supported by National Endowment of the Arts and they created the equivalent of the Piss Christ.
