What about hiring Jay Artigues from SLU to coach pitchers?

Everything I've heard about Artigues makes it sound like he's a good recruiter and a very solid pitching coach. And I would think LSU could pay him more than he'll make where he is (plus, he's got a better chance of moving up as Mainieri's lead assistant than stay at SLU where 35-22 is about as good as you're going to do).

Terrible idea. He's doing excellent where he is, and it wouldn't help LSU in the long run. He might help us next year or two, but he wouldn't be a long term type of assistant.

Give him another year or two and I think SELU will be in a regional.

I don't know if he would do it. His next move from there is likely as a head coach in a better conference.

Right now, the next year or two is all Mainieri needs to worry about. He doesn't get his act together next year, and he'll burn his arse on that hot seat.

You wouldn't be able to get him though. He's not leaving for an assistant job. He's building a program right now, and if he keeps at it he might get a very good HC offer soon.
