"The Ram" had to be loosely based on Hulk Hogan i would think especially after seeing that mini series "finding hulk hogan" which was pretty sad since i was a hulkamaniac growing up.

I think it was more based loosely on Jake "The Snake" Roberts.
At the same time, i think there were many influences for his character

Jake Roberts is the epitome of what wrestling can do to someone who is already walking that line. Scott Hall is another guy who is currently in a bad bad place. Need to see the Wrestler though just have to be in that mood for an Aronofsky movie.

Jake Roberts for sure, without the glamor of being world champ. I also thing Terry Funk, in a way, but not as pathetic when it comes to wrecking his family life.

There are a lot of wrestlers from the 80s who fall into that mold. The Ultimate Warrior being one.

My favorite wrestler growing up.

Good movie. I definitely have a soft-spot for those cats, even though I don't watch wrestling any more. And Tomei is FIYAH!

They take drugs to stay awake, drugs to go to sleep, and drugs get going in the morning.

I also didn't realized hogan was in such bad physical shape. His knees and back are completely shot

Great movie IMO. What is also show's is how far these guys will go to hold on to that star power they use to have. It in itself is a drug, probably more powerful than the chemical ones they take regularly.

Yeah. Take a look at some of the top guys the industry ever had.

Hulk Hogan: Egomaniac who can't let go.

Ric Flair: Still wrestling at the age of 62 and married multiple times.

Ultimate Warrior: Batshit crazy.

Randy Savage: Not quite as crazy, but still crazy.

Bill Goldberg: Egomaniac. Nice guy, but egomaniac.

Bruno Sammartino: Complete a-hole.

Bret Hart: Bitter, bitter man.

And more recently...

Kurt Angle: Numerous painkiller problems and history of violence.

Chris Benoit: Double murder & suicide.

Jeff Hardy: Enough drugs to constitute 20+ years in jail. Still comes to the ring high.

Rock: Got out early. Seems ok.

Austin: Got out just in time.

Edge: Forced out by spinal injury, just in time.

Rock is working a part time schedule and already booked to wrestle next Wrestlemania against Cena; Austin recently said he could wrestle for another 2 years if need be, but concentrating on movie career & Tough Enough

I saw that rock vs cena story line building up. It might be a passing of the torch deal like with the rock vs hogan.

True but with the next WM being in Miami (Rock's hometown) he may not be so quick to relinquish the proverbial torch. It will be interesting though b/c WWE treats Cena as they did Hogan in the early 90s and the Rock is an automatic ratings boost and has done a lot for the company

Apparently went crazy due to multiple head injuries. His finishing move was the flying headbutt. In retrospect, maybe that wasn't a good idea.

This came on TV the other day, and I skipped over it. I really want to see it, but not on TV first time. I just think it'll probably lose too much in the editing. Gonna have to find it this weekend while I have a house almost free of kids.
