PS3 - YLOD

So my 80GB PS3 finally died yesterday and got the YLOD. Lasted almost 4 years. Unfortunately for me I never backed up my game saved data. Anyone know a local place in BR that will fix this problem or at least be able to get my data off it?

not that hard to take the hard drive out from what i've heard

Yeah but then what? Apparently you can't do anything with the data on the PS3 hard drive. Computers can't read it and hooking it up to a another PS3 will format the drive.
I've heard the ylod issue can be fixed by re-soldering the board or something but I have no idea how to do that. Looking for someone local that knows how to do it.

its not that hard to temporarily fix it... but those hard drives are made to only be read by that motherboard. unless, like you said format the drive.

Anyone know of any place in BR that fixes this? I don't have the time or a soldering kit to fix it.

just called them and they fix it in house for $120. Should have it back in a few days. Now only if that damn PSN would get back up and running.

You can't just swap out the hard drive. Putting my old hard drive into a new PS3 would just erase everything on the old drive. Whenever a new hard drive is connected to a new system the PS3 makes you format(erase) the drive.
I stupidly never backed up my saved game data so I can't start from scratch.
I don't know why Sony made it this way as it's a horrible concept.

I honestly don't have the time and don't feel like watching a youtube video of some kid fixing his system to learn how to do it.
$120 ain't that bad. Plus i'm rich bitch!
