LSU Great, Glen Davis - NBA Playoff Update

One of my favorite Tigers of all time had an awful game last night in the NBA playoffs. He went 1 of 8 from the field and finished with 2 pts and 5 reb. in over 25 minutes of play.
He's oft criticized, even in, or especially in LSU circles for lacking the athleticism to really succeed in the NBA. Many people see a goofy, overweight guy who plays below the rim. A most-likely to be posterized candidate.
Despite the criticism, the guy must be doing something right. He doesn't have the 20/10 averages that would make him an all-star, and he was indeed posterized by Amare Stoudemire on at least one occasion. But look closer at the stat line from last night. When Big Baby was in the game, the Celtics were +13 in scoring differential, including Ray Allen's game-winner. By that stat alone, he was by far the biggest difference maker on either team. The guy is the consummate role-player, even on a bad night.

FWIW some of the moves Stoduemire made last night were just unbelievable. There was one 360 layup he made that Scottie Pippin would have been left with his jaw out trying to defend.

Shaq is more valuable to them then big baby. I do like it when he has good games though. If he gets rolling then his mid range is good. He reminds me a of fatter Paul Pierce...just not as good.

I know I'll get killed for this but I see a little bit of Karl Malone under all that </ahem> weight.

He really does have some good skills(which is why he gets good time in with Boston). He just could lose a little weight an practice some different shots.

You can knock him all you want but i bet you would say you would take him on our current team in a heartbeat...

I don't understand the hate for the guy. And yes, there's plenty of it to go around. He averaged 10 rebounds and 17 pts per game shooting 50% FG's over 3 years.
When he played with a compliment on the low post (Bass/Thomas) to prevent a double-team the guy was awesome. He had no help in his last year at LSU. He deserves more credit.

You gotta be shittin me. If Glen Davis was uncoachable, I'd like to see your opinion of Shawnson Johnson

I think that Bobby's referring to Glen's last yhear at LSU. He was trying to display a game that he didn't have, for NBA scouts. Until then, Glen had been a valuable part of the LSU team. In the last year, though, he often was playing for scouts rather than for the team.

Bobby Moore - You're not ignorant, you're a dumbass. Big Baby gave his heart and soul to LSU. You need to check yourself..... for a common sense gene that you are lacking.

That is one of the more bizarre statements I have ever seen on the Rant, which I suppose is something of an accomplishment. You can certainly argue exactly how good Davis was at LSU, but I can't imagine that anyone could watch our team this past season and not think that ANY NBA player would not have benefitted the team. What a sad joke!

He's having a great season with the Celtics.
He's one of LSU's best PF's and is having a solid NBA career. Great career for a second round pick.
I don't know the coaches so I don't know how "coachable" he was, but he played his arse off for LSU.

Davis' best attributes dont show up in the stat line.....if they would keep track he would lead the league in hustle plays like getting loose balls and help defense.....he also sets the best pick in the league.....dont think for a second that Allen and Pierce and the coaching staff dont see that and use it to their advantage.

Glen Davis bypassed turning pro his junior year. The LSU community wanted him to come back. And, he did. For LSU. It cost him considerable money. And, it is amazing that people on this thread seem to have absolutely no gratitude. Pathetic!!
Glen Davis represents LSU well. You people do not.

I choose to define him as selfish. He was selfish when it mattered most.
He was selfish enough to get blazing high along with his teammates before the final four game that they and LSU were embarrassed in.
He was selfish enough to spend his senior year playing for himself and to the scouts rather than be a part of the team.
