This has been anticipated since Di Benedetto -- A Boston businessman who's part of the group which owns the Red Sox and Liverpool -- swept in to make a bid early this winter but it's great that it's finally official.

Di Benedetto, the first foreign owner of a Serie A squad, has made clear his intention to build an "English style" stadium in Roma; he's mentioned Arsenal's financial model numerous times.

He's stated that the club --while certainly not spending on par with Man City or Chelsea-- will have capital right away for 5 or 6 new players coming in to bolster the team.

Of course the transfer rumors are rampant but the one rumor I'd imagine may happen is Carlitto Ancelotti coming home to manage Roma.

Ancelotti to manage? Almost a guarantee. Good move for Roma.

Yeah, Carlitto would definitely be a good move though personally I'd love to see Luciano Spalletti given another shot with money behind him. He's far and away the best manager Roma's had in my lifetime; Capello included. What he did with slightly better than mid-table talent was fantastic and he's doing the same thing at Zenit St Petersburg now.

Above all, what Roma needs is a stadium -- along with better marketing -- and it's great to hear that Di Benedetto's bid was later in coming mainly because he wanted to have a realizable plan for a stadium and new marketing strategies in place before bidding on the club.

not at all. What's creepy about 2 babies sucking at the tits of a huge she-wolf?

We have a saying in my country - the coyote of the desert likes to eat the heart of the young and the blood drips down to his children for breakfast, lunch and dinner and only the ribs will be broken

Vivid image but what do you think it means?
What's the original language?

The image on the shield is based on an actual sculpture recovered from ancient Rome which depicts the founding myth of the city of Rome. It depicts the story of Romulus and Remus who were twins abandoned and set afloat on the Tiber. A She-Wolf discovered and nursed them to health. They remained in the location by the Tiber to found the city of Rome.

Correct.

Still, if I were devising a new marketing scheme and wanted to utilize ancient imagery I would pick something else from the glory of ancient Rome. Either that or something from the fascist Mussolinni era. Okay, that last sentence was pure sarcasm.

It's definitely odd as a crest image but it is the symbol of the city of Roma and really so many crests look cool but remarkably similar to each other -- some version of a medieval cross or crown or lion or eagle -- I think it's pretty cool that Roma's is so unique.

We should have more gear with the Romulus logo I used for my avatar too though (which is on the kit some years too).

I thought Aeneas after the aftermath of the Trojan War was the mythological hero who founded Rome

Romulus and Remus is the much more widely known story -- maybe because of this self-same famous sculpture that's now the symbol of Roma and duplicated all over the city.

But, yes, the story of Aeneas founding Roma after the Trojan War is probably the next most popular after Romulus e Remus due to L'Eneide by Virgilio.

I had never heard about the Aeneas story. Always assumed the romulus/remis one was it. I think using the Fasces with the Eagle standard would be badass as hell.

For the record I took 6 semesters of Italian at LSU and my professor was a Roma fan so it kind of became my default team to pull for in Serie A as a result. Can't wait to see who gets hired.
